Thought I might start a club to see how many divers we have here on BB and discuss diving knifes and other gear in general.

I mount it in the Pull dump hose to my auto air on Inspiration Classic.

Not to self: Must get one soon :]
I have a T-Rex Titanium and am very pleased with its size and ease of handling.
The titanium is great for its lack of corosion, I have however been thinking of modifying the blade shape as it's a little too sharp at the point. I prefer a chisel point underwater, less chance of punctures to BCDs / Drysuits / Bodyparts!
Any information on how to mod titanium blades would be appreciated.

Nice !.
A pair of emt shears in a drysuit pocket and a random perhaps tusa square ended knife on my rhs wing webbing for me. surprisingly i've not lost it yet.
99% of dive knifes are used only to flip burgers after a shore dive i reckon anyway.
just signed up but am a Scuba instructor
I use a little serrated safety knife
Oceanic Cutter BC Knife is one branded example
its only an emergancy use tool mainly to cut me or a Team member out of entanglment or Gear etc so its serrated sharp blade with No point liek a seat belt cutter
you dont want some one in current and under stress slashing at you with a big pointy thing :O
its mounted on my waist belt centered from the left for easy access and no entanglment.
if i want to get fish I use a stainless hand spike ie the tool for the job
been given a nice titanium jobby as a pressy but it will never see the water (latest SF issue apparntly  )

You'll move it or get another to mount on your BCD, when like me you have been wrapped up in fishing line, because you won't be able to reach the one on you waist! :D

I was a commercial diver for 9 yrs, apart from the usual heavy duty knife that you can hit things and lever things with, we had, wait for it
im sure you can hardly wait
bet the suspense is killing you hahahahahaha
a kitchen devil pairing knife strapped to our harnesses (roughly shoulder level). They will cut through rope, fishing nets, harnesses, fishing line, almost anything. They were cheap, lasted for ages, never went blunt, and a complete life saver if you got yourself caught up in fishing nets.
Dont dive without one.
Steve
let me guess a bit of Plastic hose pipe for a sheath :D

Noooooooooo dont be silly, hosepipe isnt wide enough lol, it was actually a bit of fairy liquid washing up bottle folded in half and taped to the body harness just below the D rings, why make things more difficult than they need to be lol.

Sainsbury's are doing a set of three for 79p.:D

Beaver Titanium BC knife on my LP wing inflator hose, and an Oceanic Titanium on my right calf - angled to the front so I can get it with left or right hand. I don't invert my knives anymore as I have lost more than one over the years. Worst loss was a SOG Seal Pup up in Oban a few years ago.
Used to carry a pair of surgical shears, but not very rust resistant - couldn't be bothered to rinse it in fresh water after every dive, so it broke when I needed to use it.
Me and the missus are off to Egypt [Luxor] in January for 3 weeks. It is mostly a working holiday of visiting temples [Abydos] a few specific tombs on the west bank and meetings with some Egyptology nerds specialists.
With a bit of luck we should be able to bunk off for a few days to El Queseir, anyone on the forum got any feedback from diving there? :snorkel
Recommendations and "don't go with that Co.!!" appreciated, we'll be taking our BCDs, Reg's, dive comp's etc. but will hire wetsuits, fins etc.
Bit of a longshot but who're you going to trust?
How many divers :snorkel do we have here on BB?
Please PM me if you don't want to put your feed back on the forum.

got a orca dive knife (the bigger one) in xt n.15 or whatever it was - too big and heavy in the water (maybe im just small and weak :) )
am hoping to go sharm el sheik in march /april '10 for first time with my brother and then barrier reef in '11!

Scuba instructor too. When I worked in California & on teh Barrier Reef, a little knife for cutting things like fishing line and kelp if I became tangled. Occasionally used for feeding limpets to octopus! Used it once!
Smaller the better - no more than a 3 inch blade at most and kept face downward on the left BCD shoulder strap below the buckle. We used to have a chuckle at some of the one we seen divers carrying. :)

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have been drawing a blank... and would like to ask...I bought a MiniZak dive knife a while ago (for canoeing on PFD) but never used it. Tired selling on this forum but no luck (a bit specialist I suppose). Are there any other forums that would be more suited, i.e. dive related, the local dive shop couldn't help (??).
Cheers

not knife related but me and my brother are thinking of going to sharm el sheik in april - neither of us have been before - was hoping someone could shed some light on a few questions we have....
1 - is april a good time to go? i know its all year diving round but hoping to see some manta's / turtles and maybe sharks (not close up mind you) - the tour operaters seem a bit confused and contradict each other when i ask.
2 - going for 1 week - want to do 4 / 5 days diving in a week - hoping people could recommend a few places to stay / eat / go out - someone said the main town with bars etc is quite away from most of the hotels? also most deals we have been offered are B&B only...
3 - we are fairly new divers - would need a refresher course - any recommendations for a diving company that can take us out for 4/5 days diving during that week would be appreciated!
4 - had a look at some gear rental prices - seem pretty high £5 to hire a basic mask / day so will prob pick up basic kit before we go - one thing in particular we are after is a cheap underwater camera to try some basic photography - any ideas would be great!
cheers in advance!
