I had my daughter, who is taking a high-school photography course, take some pictures of four of my first five knives. My very first knife went to ggfh666 in the necker KITH. My pictures always seem to look a lot like police mug-shots, and aren't terribly flattering. The knives are a bit coarse, but I'm learning, and they seem to be progressing. I hope to one day join the Canadian Knifemakers Guild, and with the great help I've gotten here, that may become a reality one day.

A pair of 3 utility knives I started with.

Here's a modified ULU shaped deer skinner, and my first moose hide sheath.

And finally, my camp knife, inspired by Offroadgreg. 3mm thick, 240mm OAL, the blade is 115mm. The balance point is right under the forward Corby, and it's Bloodwood with white liners.

Comments and critiques are welcome, as the only way to improve is to find faults and correct them. And after spending so much time with these, I may have become blind to something obvious to others. Thanks for spending some time and letting a novice beam...

Nice work.

I love bloodwood, but it turns purple over time.

I love the idea of the ULU shaped deer skinner, and the camp knife is a fantastic shape, although the grain on the handle still looks a little raised.

Is there an engraving of a buffalo or similar on that one? Hard to make out on my monitor but it looks like it might be there!

awesome work man! I'm really glad to hear I've inspired you!

How did you come across the moose hide? was it something you shot yourself? I've got some moose antler in the garage and my dad was given some moose meat from a guy at work.. really good stuff.. I wonder if I should have a try at taking one down myself!

Thanks folks. Underground, the picture is a bear engraved on the blade, and the grain is dead flat, just looks that way in the picture. Greg, Thanks for not suing me! Hahaha. I picked up the moose hide at Tundra leather here in Hamilton. I'm not a hunter, but I know quite a few. They all seem to be pretty generous guys with the meat, but stingy with the hides! Hahaha. My have to work out some trades with them for gear.
