Just found an unexpected source for borax - the Chinese grocers... Cost was £1.70/lb.
I have a couple more kilos than I did before - that was probably one of the things that caused the funny looks I was getting...

Peter, you are becoming synonymous with funny looks and hushed whispers ;):p

If you mean the borax, I just found it on the shelf with the bicarb and the plaster of paris. I have no idea what the plaster is used for either.
If you mean the Chinese grocers generally, I do a lot of my shopping there!
I asked Steve at Bath Potters Supplies about the borax frit they sell, but he said it was combined with "other stuff", and I had no way of knowing what else there was in it.

Yes I did mean the Borax, Mr Moderator, Sir. I have absolutely no interest in how many Pak Choi, Dim Sum and frozen Dog legs you bought :p

I thought they were chicken, honest...
I was intrigued to find a nutritional breakdown on the back of the packets - turns out, the packs it is in were originally printed up for dried barley.
