the coating has mostly come off the popper for the lid of My F1 sheath. I'd like to coat it again but don't know what to do it with.
What do you suggest?

If it's black, I would have thought that the simplest way would be enamel paint with a few coats of varnish, either matt or gloss depending on how you feel. I used to do cap badges like this and they always seemed to take a fair bit of abuse. Another alternative could be a permanent black marker. Use a good quality one carefully, building up the layers and this can gove good results as well

I'd think Jon's first suggestion was the best best bet as the permanent marker idea (although a quick fix) will soon come off.

Alternatively and if you've got the tools, it's not difficult to drill out the old popper and put a new one on.

If you dont have the tools, you could always go to your local saddler, they would most likely be able to replace it with a new one. Alternatively, remove the rest of the blacking and just leave it be.

MBM's idea of using a permanent marker is actually a tried and tested one as long as you do a couple of coats and let each coat dry completely in between. An hour of drying time rather than minutes is preferable btw.

I just thought. I may try the paint from warhammer (it's not mine!!!)

Although I note that you refer to it by its actual name rather than 'those silly toy soldier gobliny things'

Permanent marker doesn't last; enamel works a bit better.

Joe at ODS used to sell Brass Black on his old web site. I cannot find it on the new one but it might be worth a pm.
