My son has had this happen twice.
They will repair it for free, his is one of the 1st ones that came out and they repaired/replaced it only 4 weeks ago.

I have one .. its dead though.

Get a newer one if you can .. they run massively cooler, you can feel the difference .. and they come with internal memory. and some of the other niggles have been fixed as well.

If yours is less then 3 years old give Microsoft a ring as they extended the RROD warranty to 3 years they pay for everything as well.

I think I am looking at a new one. I bought this one from ebay and it came with some games. However I think it has been messed about with (Chipped I think) as the games don't play on next doors xbox which is new from a shop. Its been played almost every day for over a year so its had a good run I think.

The RROD warranty is now more than 3 years mate.
My sons original was one of the original batch to be released in the UK and they repaired it for free. The guy my wife spoke to at Microsoft said they will basically repair the RROD indefinately.
I will agree that the latest one he had returned to him after RROD is a lot quieter and runs cooler.

my repaired one i got back about 11 months ago sounds like a damned jet stuck beihnd the tv :@ and it didn't work first time. thatsmy 9th for me
