What weight/ type of leather is recommended for possibles/hunter bags? I was thinking of 3/4oz or 4/5oz veggietan.
Any input would be greatly be appreciated.
I haven't ever made a possibles/hunter bag, but I would think that 3/4oz is a bit thin for it. I'd say to stick with the 4/5oz, and maybe get some 5/6oz for tougher areas. Good luck! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

If you're going for a period correct bag as possible then use 3/4 oz.
Shooting bags or hunting pouches (not possibles bags - which are a different thing altogether although the name has unfortunately been applied to hunting pouches) are not supposed to be heavy weight and 3/4 oz will carry anything you need in the standard sized bags. The straps can be a bit heavier if you choose, but are not necessary.
Best advice - get Tim Albert's book on 18th Century Shooting Bag making - several examples of originals as well as patterns are included: http://muzzleloadermag.com/hunting%20pouch.htm
Advice two - check out the Accoutrements forum on ALR - some of the best bag makers in the world hang their hat there:
