I have recently purchased a Military folding Machete. I believe it is a type issued to Aircrew in the 1940s/50s for use as a survival knife.

It has a large forward curving blade with a rounded end. The handle appears to be a synthetic material and is quite thick covering half the blade when folded. There is a steel blade protector which covers the remainder of the blade for safety.

It is in good condition with only minor blemishing to the blade and handle. Can anyone tell me more about this knife. It seems to be a reasonably useful item for medium cutting jobs although the handle is quite large and uncomfortable for prolonged use. Is it worth much?

Bushbasher, Zackerty.
My brother had one of those many years ago, we'd share it when building dens and such! You are right in saying that they are uncomfortable for prolonged use. I seem to remember that it held a very good edge (ouch). Don't know about value other than my own curiosity.

I hope you can find out more about them as I'd be interested to know as well.

Nice find , yes it is a US military aircrew survival machete, if I remember right they were issued in a survival kit, not personal issue.Nice that it has the blade protector too.
I have seen them being sold from @ £45 to over £100, all depending on condition and also where they are being sold too
( Arms fairs boost the price compared to antique fairs).
