I live in Baltimore and am moving back to Cambridge (on the Cam, not our fair city) in June.

I am planning to bring my little craftsman 2x42 as I can rewire the motor for 240.

What else would you bring that is much cheaper here than there?

Got this on evil bay the other day weights about 3-400 lb will apparently twist 1" square bar cold :S
havent tried it as i have no room in my 6x8 bike shed :( could use a few more die,s for it i seem to have a 20mm and about an 8mm
where as the most popular bar sizes for gates railings etc is prob 12--16mm and i will get some 3,4,5,6 mm etc sloted die,s for twisting knife/ cut throat razor handles flint strikers things like that.
could use a decent amount of 20mm plate now so i dont have to go to an engineering company and pay £60 a time for die,s
should be able to get a nice side line going in curtain rails me thinks :-)

the whole thing cost me more to pick up than it cost to buy it , if nothing else i have a garden ornament and a decent vice .

Got one of these today from a job I was working at. It was in the attic of a pub. All for the price half a guiness. It has a 1hp motor with a shaft on each end.

I plan to turn it into a belt grinder. So I'm wondering if anyone has any plans or pics of a really really simple setup
(I have searched the site but there's millions of them)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also I was wondering if by fitting a dimmer switch to the motor is it possible to vairiable speed it? Or am I just being silly? Cheers kris

Hi All,
I've been salivating over the KMG grinder for some time and came across Aly's superb tutorial/plans a while back (I'll add my thanks right here).

A friend of mine was getting rid of a treadmill recently because of a damaged running belt and the fact the novelty wore off with the family within weeks of forking out £600 for it.
Before he could finish his sentence I bit his hand off and appropriated the said machine with the KMG firmly in mind.

The treadmill is a Strength Master MI310 and when I Googled it I and found that it contained a 3HP variable speed motor and couldn't wait to get cracking!

Well I started stripping it down today;

Now imagine my HORROR when I got this far to find that the motor is actually a 1.7HP and not 3HP!!

[IMG][/IMG]

Anyway, enough rambling.
Is the 1.7 man enough for the job? Will i need to put a step pulley on the motor/grinder to step the speed up?

Many thanks
Richie

I know the tct blades are more expensive but apparently can last quite a while, i also like the flexibility they give for cutting other materials.

thoughts anyone?

Hi folks

In the workshop we have a Russian 80 kilo airhammer that has startet to leak oil from the cylinder / pistonhead.

The oil seems to leak from between the cylinder and the main frame and its really annoying since the oil hits whatever hot piece of steel one is working on and causes a lot of smoke in the smithy :yuck:

Any advice is welcome ......but I guess there is no other way than lifting the piston / cylinder up and see what causes the problem ( maybe a gasket of some sorts ? )

Is cylinder and / piston the right words ?

Here is a few pictures

The oil seem to leak from between the main frame and the piston. ( as mentioned above ) And the piece of cloth is for wiping everything down when it gets to messy and the smoke makes it impossible to work :C:D

Was give this over the weekend, still boxed and un-used. It was marked "Universal Sander" and was made in Japan. The box had been nibbled by a mouse and the soft pad has also been eaten so I stripped it back and glued on a piece of thin neoprene foam. Interesting bit of tool history.

I've got a 300 bar diving cylinder, which I want to use as a source of compressed air for an air duster like this, which is rated at 110 PSI max, or around 7 bar... so obviously I need something to reduce the pressure from the cylinder quite a lot before I can connect them up. Anybody know what I should be looking for? I've tried loads of google searches and I feel like I know less about compressed air tech now than I did before I started.
