Hi All,

Thinking of purchasing one of the two above knives, and was wondering if anyone had used the gutting hook on the S11 ? Does it actually improve efficiency over the standard W11 ? or is it just some fancy extra ?

Is the extra width of the S11 a help or a hindrance ?

Hi All,

Thinking of purchasing one of the two above knives, and was wondering if anyone had used the gutting hook on the S11 ? Does it actually improve efficiency over the standard W11 ? or is it just some fancy extra ?

Is the extra width of the S11 a help or a hindrance ?

The knife is going to be used as a general fixed blade camp knife, small cutting tasks plus gutting and skinning coneys / woodies and the occasional jointing of larger four legged mammals.

Was maybe interested in getting one second hand if anyone has seen one about on any of the "usual suspect" forums,

Cheers, and thanks in advance for any info, T :)

Here are some pics in daylight - it' cosmetic shortcomings are far more apparent but I'm quite pleased with it.

Too many pics, I know.

Tricky little things to fit those ferrules but I like the fact they enclose the end grain of the handle. Going to get strait on with doing some more, hopefully better - they are fairly roughly made & never going to be especially pretty but they seem to suit a basic user like this.

The rosewood was a legacy gift from a friend - his deceased father made snooker cues. After making this whittler I wanted to try some more.

I'm not generally keen on buying exotic wood from far off lands - we have many fine sustainable ones of our own - it did deserve saving from scrap though. I has a nice 'waxy' quality that takes a great finish from the knife or sanded, rather like African Blackwood but not as heavy.

Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.

Toodle-pip!

As you can read in the picture, this is the second and third sketch of a scandi folder I've got in the works. I was hoping you guys could maybe make some suggestions before I start the build. I probably won't have much time to work on it for a few months until I finish my current project. Maybe you guys can at least help me pick your favorite. The blade length will be 3" long out of 1/8th inch thick O-1. Handle will either be curly maple with stainless steel liners or black linen micarta.

Puukko Folder 2

Puukko Folder 3

Note: the mechanics for these are just quickly drawn and by no means represent what the actual guts of the knife will look like, but the blades do fit in the handles as drawn and the pivot pins should work mechanically as they are placed as well. The tang on #3 needs some changing, but this sketch is just to get a general idea of what I want to make.

Thanks for any input.

I have DMT stones but they weight a ton. So they stay home all the time.

I also have the DC4 but it is too small and is moving around all the time. I nail it of course but it is still small

The Lansky rods I also have are not good for scandis. I use them mainly for spyders. Damn good thing this system I admit.

Any ideas please?

Thank you

I need your advice again folks.

I need the perfect stones for sharpening scandi knives in the field and farm.

According to my glossary Perfect means:
- sharpen good
- two grinds/sides = medium+fine
- ease of use
- not too big yet not too small
- weight less

I need the perfect stones for sharpening scandi knives in the field and farm.

According to my glossary Perfect means:
- sharpen good
- two grinds/sides = medium+fine
- ease of use
- not too big yet not too small
- weight less

I have DMT stones but they weight a ton. So they stay home all the time.

I also have the DC4 but it is too small and is moving around all the time. I nail it of course but it is still small

The Lansky rods I also have are not good for scandis. I use them mainly for spyders. Damn good thing this system I admit.

Any ideas please?

Thank you
Aris

Hi !

In my work to reorganise my workshop I have come to the blade drawer. This is how it loks like at the moment. All of them are heat treated and some have got their final grinding. The upper row is AEB-L and the lower RWL 34.
