Hi there,
time to share with you guys some of the project I did on leatherwork before I joint this forum. I was asking around for some one some place to make me the pouch for my knife and tools. Some never entertain and some explained that it will take days and pricy to make one.. Well! thanks to all of them I force myself to look for the material and do it my self and my way.

No photos taken during the making of these project as I told myself, no one will be interested to see what I do. So. instead of showing the step by step (which is super easy for the gurus in the forum), I present you the result of the projects.

1) leather pouch for my Leatherman Squirt S4 & P4

2) leather pouch for the Leatherman Skeletool

3) Leatherman WAVE and 2AA Maglite

I made in such a way that it can be worn vertical and horizontally

4) Leather pouch for Leatherman Tool adaptor

I found that the belt clip is too skinny for hard work

5) also for my cheap GPS

I did these projects without proper tools and experience. The finishing and also the workmanship are not so good which I need some advises from you guys on how to improve. Oya,, pls let me know on how to remove the ball pen ink marking on leather.

And lastly, my latest project for my Wenger pen knife. This I did it 2 days ago and managed to took some photo during the making of it. It is the same design as the one I did for my Squirt P4 but this one with some striking red color tread.

The measuring, cutting and glue with dunlop rubber glue.

The result of another project ;-

Thanks for reading

New member recently signed up. Been lurking for a while and really like this site!

I recently acquired a really nice G. Wostenholm Spear Point bowie, smallish size , 5" blade and 9.25" overall with stag grips. A "hunting" size knife if you will.

It did not come with its original sheath however and I will need to make one. Questions is, what style would suit it best?

This knife is in really great condition, I would say maybe 9out of 10. (I'll try to post a pic later). I want to carry this knife on a hunting excursion or two this winter so I need a fairly robust, practical scabbard for it.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Hi all,

I'm interested in hearing methods for casing and pros/cons, there seems to be a lot of different information floating about!

As far as I can tell there are two different reasons to case leather, firstly to ready it for tooling/stamping and secondly to ready it for wet forming or moulding.

So far I've only really done the latter and a good soak in the sink for 5 or 10 minutes seems fine for that. After all if it bends it bends, if it doesn't it's probably not wet enough!

I've got a few stamps now though and the advise for casing leather for stamping seems more complex and that's what I'm more interested in...

I've seen some people just sponge the leather wet and get on with it straight away.

Other people advocate wetting it and then sealing it in a plastic bag for 24 hours, then letting it air a bit before stamping - that seems like a lot of work, it is necessary?

I know as usual there's no 'right' way to do this I'm just interested in hearing people's methods and results!

Thanks,

Ian.

This wasnt an easy one to do, but i reckon i can equal most this side of the big pond with kydex so this is it. The problem is this knife has a large sawback of very sharp teeth, so my reckoning was a 2 piece sheath were the knife comes out the back of the sheath. It is secured by the press stud on the leather strap, and the end of the blade goes into the base of the sheath.
All comments good or bad welcome.
Cheers Paul.

Based on a 'dangler' sheath for my ultrafire but found my aurora cree fits like a glove too.
Wet formed, stitching to rear and belt loop attachment as like a scandi sheath.
Very pleased and will be making more im sure.At the moment due to personal problems these really are therapy for me :)
Not sure if these would be cost effective to sell but we'll see.
hope you like and comments welcome good or bad.Total inspiration from the great leatherworkers here on BB:)
The first one inthe picture will be on its way today to a good freind.
