I bought a Becker BK2 2nd generation a while back I was very happy with. That was till I took the step to join the forum and now have an itch to start modifying it.

Here goes: The black coat is quite battered and I would like to strip it back to metal. From what I can find here and other sources gasket remover works well and I've already got some. Would you recommend anything else to take the black coat off?

I really like the look and feel of brass and wood on knives so my plan was to replace the grivory with a dark wood in the same design as the original scales and incorporate brass liners, with brass m6 nuts and bolts. Would the brass have negative effects bolted to the 1095 cro van? I've seen sheet brass but what thickness do I go for, what thickness do liners usually have? If the scales and liners are held on with nut and bolt do they still need to be epoxied together to the tang?

I know coatings on knives aid in preventing corrosion so I had planned on using ferric chloride to etch the knife after stripping it. Do I etch the knife before putting the brass and wood on or dip the the whole thing in once assembled? Not sure how ferric chloride reacts with brass or wood, don't think it would do it good.

And finally, if anybody is still reading, your opinions on sand/bead blasting. The matte effect is awesome on blades but as I use the knife alot, I'm concerned of increasing the surface area susceptible to corrosion and the issue of having stubborn material trapped in the porous surface that can't be removed. Functionality over looks will win me over on this.

Last thing I want to do is make some schoolboy error and throw money down the drain in the process, only to post my ruined BK2 on here and someone to say "I could have told you that was a bad idea before you started"

Thanks for taking the time to read through this barrage of questions and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I quite like it. Something I don't like about the Kershaw Camp 10 is the guard on the top gets in the way of wrapping my thumb around the knife. This one at least doesn't have it, but it does at the bottom so there is some protection.

What are the polypropylene handles like on these Cold Steel? Are they really soft or firm to grip?

I wondered if you could advise. I do quite a lot of writing (my main hobby apart from cooking and eating) and I like to try new forms of writing, for the next chalenge I'm writing a history of the UKPK and as BB was where it all started, but as the BB search function is only as effective as the brain that's using it, I'm not getting to the information I need. Could one of you who was involved point me in the direction of the original threads?

Also on the Spyderco site the different models had different prices. did this mean they were issued at different times?
So far I know of Black, Blaze Orange, Foliage Green, Design Team, Titanium, Carbon fibre, and Rescue? and then a second Lightweight series.
Have I missed any, and which order did they come out in?

Thanks
What a fantastic knife. Im a HUUUGE fan of the Mules and the MT07 is one of my absolute favourites. The Mule series knives are a great size and just right for my use (though I can hardly get myself to use the 07). I finally got scales for the Mule and though the color might not be the right one for the Suminagashi knife, they'll have to do for now.
The slabs are slim Halpern Titanium in Coyote. I bought them a while ago and had a nice chat with the Halper T CS and they were VERY pleasent and helpful. I only now got my hands on the slabs and put them on the Mule. They fit great and are just right for the Mule. Not only is the knife of great quality, but the handle slabs are also quality. The knife now feels incredibly nice to handle and fits my hand just right, The scales are just the right amount of 'skid proof'. Not abrasive, but certainly not too smooth either - they are just right. I will try to get around to have a pair of aluminium honeycomb and black Nanocyl slabs made, but for now these scales will have to do. Mule and Halpern Titanium slabs - a perfect combination (even though the Coyote color might not be perfect for the beautiful lines of the Suminagashi).
The slabs were originally bought for a future Mule purchase, which is very very high on my wish list. I hope, I eventually will be able to get my hands on a second hand Super Blue, which will get to be used, as Im fan of that steel.

Hi.

Housebound today and one armed, as I managed to twang my elbow pretty hard yesterday. Had one of those weird ganglion things flare up to the size of a golf ball, and spent a worried period wondering exactly which part of my anatomy had come completely adrift. Anyway, that went away and now it just hurts a lot.

So, pictures of knives. And here’s a new one to me. Arrived two days ago. The Spyderco Enuff. Jokes about the name unfortunately make too much sense to be funny. It may well be enough as an outdoor knife. I am certainly thinking in that way about it.

It has taken a little while for me to get hold of this one, as I have been using all my pocket money to snap up these ebony slipjoints GEC have been letting out recently. But, it suddenly dawned on me that the Enuff could easily sell out, and I would be annoyed not to have got one. Now that I have one in my mitt, I think I would have been in a tamping rage had missed her.

What you have here is a small, full tang, fixed blade knife with a solid VG10 blade. The blade is flat ground with a quite oblique bevel on it. I knocked the shoulders off of that straight away, and it is a crazy cutter now. It was only OK, straight out of the box.

The blade is 70mm long (2 ¾”) and 4mm thick. And from those dimensions, you can quickly figure out what kind of jobs it is going to be good for.

One thing I’d say is that it looks rather like I imagine a fixed blade Native 5 would. You can see the similarities and differences between it and a UKPK readily. It also has a lot, moodwise, in common with the Para 1. Hunched up, tough, capable and uncompromising.

(L-R - 6mm Serrata Pug, 5mm TK1, 4mm Enuff, 3.5mm Fallkie WM1, 3mm Roselli, 2.5mm F2)

The handle is in FRN. I like FRN on its own merits. Took a little while to get there, but in so many ways I see the advantages of it over G10 in terms of weight, mouldability, the way it hangs on to a colour, and (not a minor matter) the cost of it.

This Enuff is a Seki-made, solid bit of VG10. Cost me $99. A gobsmackingly good deal.

It is a relatively simple knife. Takedown/screw construction, leaving the way open to lovely wood (or, indeed G10) scales later on. There are two other Enuffs. The Droppoint and the Serrated version. Neither of these dent me into deliriums, but I can certainly see me getting a another of these leaf patterns. I think this knife will get used a lot, and I also think on that basis, it may get lost too.

Can’t see it wearing out. The blade is slightly hollow ground from about 8mm beind the spine, then parallel before reaching the bevel: which is kind of ideal as a grind. No, I can’t see it wearing out any time soon.

To me there is only one down side and it's a biggie in that it's made by the same people who were tasked with making the "Chris Caine Survival Knife" the one and only Samuel Staniforth:].

Any other info from the collective( sorry have been on a scifi binge) will be most welcome.

Not a review but initial opinion.

A lot of you will know y now that to call me anal when it comes to quality, fit and finish etc is a massive understatement.

So when I say I'm blown away those in the know will know it must be something pretty special.

This knife has overcome my OCD tendencies and is simply perfect.
The lock up is sebenza like.
The sharpness is as all spydercos come - slightly toothy , in a good way
The blade is centred perfectly
The ergos are the same as its heavier brother. - awesome

The only problem I ever had with t he normal manix 2 was weight

This thing is ridiculous
When you feel the weight of the package you could be forgiven for thinking they left the knife out of the package.

For something with the size blade and roomy handle like this the weight is a true accomplishment .

At he same time it feels bomb proof.

I know it never happened without photos , but it did happen and to be honest I just want to get back to playing with it.

So if you are uming and ahring about buying the manix 2 light weight blak with adjustable pivot, in my opinion get your card out, phone heinnie and buy one .

Simply amazing

Regards
Very happy of Godalming

And congrats to sal etc for making a truly amazing knife
