Kifaru liner ????
Has anyone found the ideal waterproof liner to a Kifaru Pointman - I am using a blue builder's rubble bag at the moment, and that has to change

Re: Kifaru liner ????
haven't found it but have an idea of what it would be.
I think it would be a bag which is held in place at the top using the common loops, made from the ultralight fabric, with taped seems and possibly a waterproof zip for bottom openingWARNING contents of this post may not be consistant with reality

Re: Kifaru liner ????
What about a Sea To Summit Ultra-Sil Pack Liner, 3000 cubes exactly the same as the Pointman, or the Ultra-Sil Dry Sack 35 or XXL Sil Nylon Stuff Sack

Nice thinking Andy

Thanks Dogs
What do you reckon to the longevity of ultralight drybags?

I reckon they'll be fine as long as you don't fill em with bricks and go jogging

I'm pretty sure it's the same or very similar sil-nylon stuff Kifaru use.The man who never made a mistake never made anything

Re: Kifaru liner ????
I wouldn't go for a liner with the same capacity of the bag it's going in, you'll want a bit more to compensate for them not being the same dimensions and also you tend to get some bunching.

Re: Kifaru liner ????
You've got a Pointman so you've already made a decision about weight. I used to use a bug drybag (most likely one of those Swiss ones) that was big enough to put the rucksack in, if necessary. Any excess material gets pushed flat but you can float the bag and self around.
If work was a good thing, the rich would have it all and not let you do it.

Now that's a good idea, a big one doubling as a coracle

Re: Kifaru liner ????
I'm thinking about picking up one of these with my next endy order, the orange would be useful as I think it would make things a bit easier to find. I think I need to find some way of partitioning my gear as well, I might get two and use one for clothes, not sure yet.
Link might help

Re: Kifaru liner ????
I'm with Ropeman. Getting Kifaru gear means you're not weight conscious. I'd get a large strong dry bag (ortlieb, sea to summit, exped, alpkit etc)
I used to use fairly large dry bags in my pack when doing walking/camping but have recently moved to lots of small dry bags to help me sort my kit. Most of them are alpkit lightweight bags but I'm pack weight conscious (pack in this example is a Golite Jam)
The only issue with dry bags is that you need to get used to and good at squeezing air out of them. Otherwise its like trying to pack balloons!
edit - the lightweight ones aren't ridiculously fragile but if you're relatively heavy on your gear then it'll take a beatingLast edited by benp1; 23-04-10 at 12:58 PM.

Re: Kifaru liner ????
I was past Aldi yesterday, there are a few useful bits this weekend.
The drybag I was trying to remember was a big Exped one. It must be about 120 litres. Perfect for the job.If work was a good thing, the rich would have it all and not let you do it.

Re: Kifaru liner ????
I'd second benp1's suggestion of smaller dry bags. The advantage of this is with a selection of small / medium bags you can grab the gear out you need a glance. Great thing about this setup is if it's absolutely pouring down you don't have to crack open a big bag, and dig through it to find what you're looking for (exposing everything in the bag to water). Get the bags in a section of colours and it makes a great way to quickly organise load.
It's not so important in a tent but if you're in a bivibag or somewhere with little dry / clean organizational space this can be a godsend - being able to quickly dump half your bag onto the floor to get what you're after, or sneak just the bag you're after out of your bag into your bivi bag in the dry.
I've always found full sized drybags as liners a bit of a pain to organize to be honest.Last edited by minds_eye; 23-04-10 at 04:17 PM.

Re: Kifaru liner ????
My main need is to counter the fact that the waterproofing is failing on the lid (and elsewhere) of my Pointman and in heavy weather there is ingress
