    Buying a Ka-bar in London

    Hi!
Next month I'm going to London on a business trip form Russia. I would like to buy a Ka-bar. So I have a few quiestions:
    1. Where can I buy a ka-bar in London?
    2. Can I get it out from UK to Russia packin' it in my luggage in the airport? Can it be any problems with customs or British law?

    Thanks.

Strangely I have a similar query. Like if I was to go abroad and buy a knife that is legal to own in Britain (not a flick knife/gravity knife/butterfly/balisong/etc) and its is packed in my luggage on return from a trip, I will obviously have it on me between the airport/eurostar to when I get home.

Would "I bought it in X country and am now returning home" qualify as "a good reason"?

"it is an offence for any person, without lawful authority or good reason, to have with him in a public place"

Sorry for the thread hijack but the questions are pretty much the same.

Re: Buying a Ka-bar in London

To the best of my knowledge there will be no problems exporting a knife securely wrapped in hold luggage. British authorities are, in the main, only interested in protecting passengers on the flight and they are not there to decide whether the knife would be illegal in the country of destination. It would certainly be legal to own here and to carry with 'good reason' ... and if it is securely wrapped in luggage and on the way to the airport then I'd say that is a good reason. As to whether a K-Bar would be legal in Russia, I am not sure - there is an article about Russian laws in the legal section though. Russians enjoy hunting and trekking off into the wilderness so fixed-blade bushy-type knives should be legal ... just very easy to 'confiscate' if a policeman liked the look of it

As to bringing a knife back to the UK, AFAIK the usual 'good reasons' for being in possession of a knife allow for travel to and from that activity so you should be fine. I'd say that if it was packed in a suitcase and you had a copy of your ticket to prove where you had come from and you were on a journey home then you'd be completely in the clear. It would be a slightly grayer area if you just had it packed in a rucksack and you'd decided to stop off at a mate's house on the way home etc. etc.

It would be fine. Were it not then a lot of postmen and couriers would be getting arrested

I've just entered the Silvermans' site and they required Military ID to buy a military knive (as Ka-bar). How do you think, if I show the shop asistant my Russian military card or my photo with AK-47 (I'm a Russan officer), can he sell me the knife?

Only thing to add to this, is be careful is going on Eurostar as they dont allow knives to be carried in your luggage. I belive they allow you to have certain knives kept with the train guard, but unless its a S139 slippy I wouldnt bother on ES!

The "Bushcraft Store" sell them but when I just checked the Website says they are out of stock

They aren't in the centre of London but you can get to them on British Rail, they are at the Crews Hill station.
