Re: Cold steel Trail Tomahawk mods
Any idea of a rough cost to have one of the hawks reprofiled to a more useful edge, by someone on here? I'm loving the look of these (I was looking at picking up a 'high-end' tomahawk) but all I've got is a couple of bench stones a sharp maker and a strop :/

Tht depends on if you just want a different edge or cant resist a full bunch of modifications stripping paint, change of shape, etc)

I'm happy to do the stripping, modding etc and that. It's really more just the edge work that I'm not too proficient or equipped to handle

I'm starting to enjoy this thread.
My 2nd bash at a bit of leatherwork .

Maybe could have wrapped the leather around further for less gap.

The lacing is far darker in reallity than in the pic."Don't waste words....Jump to conclusions!."

Fair play folks. I guess It might be worth giving it a go myself. I just have visions of a rather sketchy angular edge profile from my kit / skill level ^_^

Give it a go yourself. It would be hard to mess it up too much and you'll learn from it.

Take your time!

Tuanting with such pretty things in this thread has pushed me over the edge!!
I now NEED one of these! I am feeling the Need for more axes at the moment as a neighbour gave me an axe they had deemed ruined! nothing more than a few chips from the edge! A mornings work put a nice convex edge on and is booty job now!

Re: Cold steel Trail Tomahawk mods
I've not stripped the paint off the metal yet, but had a thought.
I can't really do file work (don't have good enough files to do heat treated metal) but I want to patina as well. Would it work if I used the files on PAINT to get the sharp edges and then patina with the paint masking everything else.
Then remove the paint, and re-patina the whole head? Or will paint stipper do something to the small notches of patina?I ask questions to learn, Chinese proverb say "Better to ask a question and look a fool for five minutes, than to not ask and be a fool forever!"

Re: Cold steel Trail Tomahawk mods
You be using the paint to block patina from forming, except where I've filed the paint away. Leaving a 2 dimension filework, without removing metal.
Then remove after the "filework" patina, remove all the paint and patina the whole thing.
So the "filework" should be twice as patina'd as the rest of the metal.
Or is this too experimental and naf?
[after 10 minutes playing with photoshop and layers and masks] hmm not sure it's gonna work. from what i've produced in photoshop, oh wellI ask questions to learn, Chinese proverb say "Better to ask a question and look a fool for five minutes, than to not ask and be a fool forever!"
