my first forced patina.
well i have been wanting to do this for a long time, so after work last night i got the ingredients out.
i chose the blade for the treatment (which i bought with this in mind)
heres a couple of pics.

i am very pleased with the results! and i think it really suits the knife. but then i would think that.
the ingredients =
for the base coat i used, malt vinegar mixed with garlic paste. the type with small chunks of garlic in it and in a squeezy tube.
for the second coat i used tomato sauce and brown sauce (hp) mixed together.
the method =
first, make shure the blade is clean and free of grease,
then for the first coat i applied the vinegar and garlic mix with my finger, just rubbed all over the blade in a circular motion. (mind your fingers with this bit)
i did both sides and the spine before leaving it for 40 minuits.
then for the second coat, make shure you have rinsed the blade thorughly (spelling) and dried propperly.
now i chose a stripe affect but i suppose any pattern can be achived.
i took the tomato and brown sauce mix and applied it with random strokes across the blade using one of them sandwich bag ties, the type with the thin strip of metal running through the middle of it.
i just dipped it in the mix and applied liberally again doing both sides and the spine.
i left this process for about 30 minuits.
i would imagine if you leave it for a shorter priod you would get a lighter effect.
thanks for reading and any comments, critisisems or questions are welcome.
