    Fishing Trip to Fort William!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm off this weekend to fish Fort William, taking the lad (like I have a choice!), we'll start in the shore car park where the target species are giant skate, thornback ray, smooth hounds and conger then its onto the mouth of the Caledonian Canal for Pollack, Coallfish, Wrasse, Gurnard and Mackerel!
Following that its's onto the hotel our family owns in Fort William for some scran and back up the Loch Road to bed. Should manage to catch both tides all being well!
We'll be bottom fishin and banging some lures out when its quiet!
I'll let you know how we get on, hopefully with some pics!
Happiest when covered in crap from my grinder!

    Need any good marks ???

I lived there for seventeen years. Some reasonable Pollack and Coalies to be had. If you can get some frozen Sandeel and take it with you, do so. The Rod and Gun shop in FW may now stock it

Looking toward The Ben from Loch Eil

Go around the head of Loch Eil and fish off the rocks at the narrows, opposite the caravan park, for reasonable Pollack, Mackrel, Coalfish Etc. Always a chance there of Salmon and Sea Trout as well. Incoming tide is better.

If you can't get Sandeel, some jelly worms will work

OOOPS! Forgot all about this thread!
Fishing was ok, lots of Codling >2lbs and some small Pollack. The current was incredible on the rising tide and I couldn't hold the bottom with 7oz of lead and bait! It would hit the bottom, lift and carry uptide untill the rod threatened to fly off the tripod or snap!
    The scenery however was stunning!

Fishing mark across the Loch from Corpach looking towards Ben Nevis
Same mark looking towards the head of the loch

The caravan and camp site opposite

Looking down the loch from the mouth of the Caledonian Canal as the sun was setting!

Just realised after looking back thru the pics that the heads up on fishing marks provided by NotSharp were spot on!
His picture looking towards the "Ben" and mine of the same must have been taken within feet of each other! Oh well I suppose it proves that I can follow directions even if I don't catch much of mention once I get there!
Thanks again to NotSharp for providing the inside gen to some top marks, my lad and I had a great day out in some stunning scenery!

    You are more than welcome

I have spent many, many hours fishing from that very spot. Looking West, my old house is about two miles along the road. Where you were fishing, you have over 20ft, of water about 3ft. off the rocks. The Spring tides will run at 7 knots through there. Not surprising you could not hold bottom

Glad you had a good trip.
