    workshop inspiration

I wanted some art in my workshop, a piece that would inspire my work,
a piece that would educate me, a piece that I could hold in my hand
and enjoy looking at while contemplating its craftsmanship and beauty.

Several days ago, much to my delight I discovered that Gunnar Holmberg's 5:th Raven
was available for purchase, so I did. It now resides in my workshop, like a lighthouse showing
safe harbor when the dark storm and fog of carving marks, filing too much, blotchy stain
and crooked stitching come crashing upon once calm knifemaking seas.

I now have a kniv that I can wear to weddings, baby christenings and official state dinners.
In few words it is a beautiful work of art.

Oh, and one more positive aspect, my wife likes it too

I've had some nice workshop 'mascots' and they all ended up covered in dust and oil. So don't keep it in there.
    Very nice though.

Not to worry, I don't do much grinding, mostly hand sanding, the saws are out in the garage, a couple drops of 3 in 1 oil on the blades but if I do perform any messy operations I'll move 5:th Raven into the house or cover it with a hand towel

Love the knife and sheath, and like the idea of inspiration in the workshop.

Yes Addo, it's a beautiful piece, Gunnar had it posted here on 12-9-10

which is where I saw it first and then later after following the link to his blog, which is very interesting and quite informative.

Nice knife, but I still prefer the July '97 centerfold :-)

No, no, no ! That's an empty cereal box in the background !
I cut those up and use them for my sheath leather templates !
