The watch is at Nite for repair under warranty as we speak, so hopefully it was the exception rather than the rule.
Hope you enjoy your new watch.

G shock are good for the price, but the straps don't always last as long as the watches.
think about what functions you want.
I liked the timer on my G shock so I could weep at my running times
I think Nite have better backlighting, but at that price you could get a G shock and a top of the range head torch with the difference

You can get attachments for some casio/G-Shock models that allows you to fit a NATO or fabric strap, that should see you right!

I owned a nite watch for a little while but didn't like the design of the strap attachment and the necessity to purchase replacement nite straps. Ended up buying a Traser Commander in titanium. Standard 22mm lugs so can take bracelet, natos, zulu's, rubber etc

Could have got a Seiko "monster" diver for less !!! LOL Bomb proof - automatic and waterproof to 200m or step up and get a Marathon GSAR - Brightest watch I've ever owned (far brighter than Traser although uses similar tritrium vials)

    Re: Nite watches

I love different types of lume, but tritium is my favourite.

If you like the Superluminova type thing you should definately check out Lum-tec, Pyrolume and Praesto as brands.

If you like electric lighting then check out the extraordinary signal light on the MTM watches.

I absolutely love tritium watches. If I had £200 to spend at the moment I would definately go for the Tawatec E.O. Diver with the tactical ICS coloured tritium.

I actually own two Traser watches, a supersport and a code blue but there are so many cool brands that use tritium lume now.

    For example:

    Ball
    Chase Durer
    Doxa
    Plasmir Milgraph
    Marathon
    Ocean7
    Dievas
    Christopher Ward
    Swiss Military Watch / Tawatec
    H3 Tactical
    Traser
    Luminox
    Armourlite
    KHS
    ZBV
    Snoon
    MWC (Military watch Company)
    Nite
    Mondaine
    ASP
    5.11 Tactical (I think!)
    UZI
    Smith + Wesson
    Praetorian
    Rescuer
    Swiss Timer
    Reactor
S.U.G (one model only thats quite hard to find but very cheap)
    Humvee (Zulu)
    Stryker
    Weems + Plath
    Mossy Oak
    Royal Swiss

As a general rule watches that use tritium tubes made by MB microtec have slightly brighter lume than those that use tubes made by SRB.

I think apart from the Tawatec I would go for something slightly unusual like a snoon streetfighter.

Very pleased with my trasers though.

Some searching needs to be done then
    Not in Belgium though.

I'll have a wee gander over next few days or so and get the birthday wishlist together
