Re: Longstrider Strops and Starkie Blue

no plastic rulers, no ice-scrapers, no cards

what i have to hand [in my for-polish-box] is a Isaac Ellis & Sons Stainless Sheffield + J Billam Ltd Firth-Brearley Stainless, with rust showing, hence stroppable .. these strops are also good for polishing and minor derust .. without the risk of buffer-overfling
in my dream i had a new knife .. so i put it under my pillow for when i awoke ..

They are indeed Just be VERY careful if you decide to give the flats of a folder blade a clean up once you've achieved that razors edge. Last week I was working on a SAK and had finished the edge when I thought I'd just tidy the flats of the blade up a little...
The compound glazes more readily under the flat of a blade, and once polished the blade can stick to the shiny glazed surface. I had supported the blade with 3 fingers of my left hand to prevent it closing on me as I worked, but the blade stuck to the strop by enough to cause my left hand to keep moving .. sans blade... which promptly snapped shut onto my right index finger knuckle.(Still under pressure from the right hand holding it, you see) It stuck deep enough for me to need pliers to grip the blade with enough force to remove the edge from the bone of my finger. I somehow managed to keep the blood off the knife, but there was a lovely trail of claret on the floor from the workbench to the first aid kit and back ....
    Ruddy slip-joints ..... I 'ate 'em !

You have nothing to feel guilty about fella. I mean ... what are the chances of it being one of yours that did the dirty on me ? ... Just be grateful that I managed not to fill the knife with claret. It makes them rust, you know

If it helps Longstrider emailed me last week to say he was away this week so you might not get an immediate reply. Mine arrived today, looks great, very impressed.

Re: Longstrider Strops and Starkie Blue

Having been away to the BCUK BushMoot where they cleaned me out of strops and paste, I'm happy to report that I now have a fresh batch of strops made, and plenty of paste in stock again too
