So far we've got Martyns design, Roger on CKD recruitment & me on motivation

As soon as Martyn gets his pic posted here & there (his exceptional & last job on this for a bit), we're set for volunteers.

I would volunteer to do the sheath too but some of you are getting a bit good at that game .....

Any steel bits I get called on to play with are going to be forged and likely to be a bit too neo-tribal for you polished shandy-drinkers

OK a suggestion...

10.5 inches o/a length. Carbon - 01 or summat similar??
Primos style rebated tang.
??wood/materials to the choice of the person who makes that bit.

OK, not a wharnie, but what the hell, a long drop point hunter/bowie, with a hint of recurve, restrained, elegant English style - I figure final choice of blade shape to the guy who grinds it (though maybe profiling it out of precision ground 01 can be one of the contributing steps - then forward it to someone to grind in the main bevels and do the h/t?).



If ya like this style, I can provide a printable scale line drawing.

Finished knife gets a certificate of provenance signed by each contributing maker, then goes on ebay, profits to "charidee mate".

By my calculations, this profile can be ground from a billet measuring 10" long by 1.25" wide (just).

Blade should be 5.75" long.

Finished length should be about 10.5" - 11"

How does that compare with the blank that Kevin sent us?

I might grind it out of that. (I knew, I'd end up grinding anyway & then Kevin'll be involved as well )

It's certainly long enough, but I think probably not quite wide enough to do it exactly, you'd have to straighten it out and trim off some of the curvy bits. Change the choil etc - but it could be made to fit. Print the drawing off, cut it out and overlay it onto the blank - see if it fits.

I have printed it off.

It would be even better if it were forged to shape from damascus...... Otherwise, I am sure it could be done from 'stock removal' method from a bar of O1 without too much difficulty...maybe initialy make it with a straight tang and heat and bend that little dog leg in later.

Damascus sounds great, but a little "champaigne" for my wallet.

You could probably make the tang shorter and straight. I put the dog leg in there just for the "full tang" thing, but it doesnt have to be so. A stub tang would work too.
