New Bark river trail buddy has a magnetic tip is this an HT fault?
My pal has just bought a new bark river trail buddy (in A2) and has discovered that
1 1/2" of the tip is strongly magnetic, ie sticks to stuff!!!
Does this point to a possible mistake during HT and is it likley to have resulted in a soft or brittle tip?
Or is it nothing to worry about?I don't wanna tickle... I'd rather ride on ma motor sickle

Unless your friend is probing for mines it shouldn't be problem.

My advice is to get your friend to register on Knifeforums and send Mike Stewart (the owner of Bark River) a private message. He'll get back to you straight away with a straight answer.

Bark River have one of the best unconditional guarantees anywhere and cover even accidental messing up of the knife (excepting Badger damage...don't ask). If there is a problem with the knife Mike will sort it out for your pal but it will require shipping back to the US.

isnt it possible that they used a magnet during the forging process and some of the magnetism has remained in the steel ?

A lot of BRKT knives are magnetic at the tip. It has to do with the grinding, but I forgot. Not an issue. use and enjoy the knife.
We need a pic BTW

It's when they're non-magnetic that you have to worry about it.
