Gränsfors Bruks, Kvinnokniv
Last fall I was lucky enough to have a friend from the Netherlands pick me up one of the small Women's knives from Gränsfors Bruks. Ulrika Stridsberg makes these Kvinnokniv, apparently for sale only at the forge in Sweden.
It is a very nice neck knife for sure.
When my Joonas arrived earlier this year I had tossed this little one in the hall drawer...rummaging around in that drawer this weekend I decided I had better get on with the slight reprofiling I had planned for it.
I started out with some 150grit emery paper on a cardboard backing and lowered the angle just a little bit, then evened up the grinds somewhat side to side. Then I worked down to 240, 320, 400, and 600grit papers to polish and refine the still slightly convex grind.
On for a little bit of stropping on a White Gold loaded leather and it was sharp like I wanted it to be.

I hung it around my neck once again...but the Joonas would not leave....so I have a bit of Scandinavian clattering going one today
. I do think I will move this Kvinnokniv to my belt pouch with my firesteel.
I have a new sheath with braided cord in the planning works for this knife, but have not yet got started on that.
This is a very nice example of a historical piece...glad I was able to acquire one.

Nice! I've always had a soft spot for those, they are a very nice demonstration of blacksmith's skills. In Finnish they are called emännänveitsi, and as I understand they were designed for the lady of the house, to provide a simple and effective solution for all her cutting needs. Looks like the grind was more typically (but not always) a bit different - less curve towards the tip, so it was more useful for kitchen duties, too.
