    Laws and their effects

We all seem to try to push the law to its limits by finding out the most knife we can legally carry around. Just curious about what people used to carry before new legislation came in and has it affected what you carried after they were introduced.

Er, has the law changed recently?

When I was on holiday in Wales in the summer, I had my Leatherman Supertool on my belt all the time. Technically, I know, it's a lock knife. But the blade is only 2.5" (OK, so there are two of them, are they going to do me for 5" of blades?).

Anyway, I had a good reason, I had to make frequent adjustments to my 3 year-old son's bike, so I needed a two sorts of screwdriver and pair of pliers with me :-)

No difference, to be honest. An SAK and a 3-4" locking blade. I used to carry either a Cold Steel Ti-Lite or the Gerber AF Covert until I got my first Spydie Native. I carry that as my EDC now, but only because I prefer the knife, not bacause it is a smaller blade.

    Re: Laws and their effects

Well I’ve only just become aware of this locking law…but kind of knew about the 3” law.

    I normally carry for work:

    Leatherman wave,
    Lightfoot Damascus folder,
Sure fire 6P with rechargeable kit + spare batteries,
House keys 2 (on metal thing),
    Car keys,
A huge bunch of work keys on lanyard,
    Mobile phone,

For days off, I probably ditch some gear, so:

    Leatherman wave,
    Lightfoot Damascus folder*
House keys (2 on metal thing),
    Car keys,
    Mobile phone,
    *(just depends where I’m going),

Nights out: (example walk down to pub)
    House keys,
Sure fire 6Z combatlight running on CR123’s with the 120 lumen P61 lamp
    Mobile Phone,

    Overseas:example West Africa

    Leatherman wave,
    SOG crosscut mini tool,
    A good tactical folder,
    Large fixed blade,
    Machete (some of the time).
Sure fire 6P with rechargeable kit + spare batteries,
    Can of pep. spray
    Firearms.

Obviously, with regards to the overseas kit, I have gear stored at the destination, ready for my arrival, so NO! I’m not travelling out with firearms or other such items, Just thought I’d better make that clear!

Before they became illigal I actually carried a smallish balisong as a work knife.

This was back before other one handed openers were readilly available over here. At that time no one batted an eyelid over it.
