A short while ago South African knifemaker Willem O'Kelly aka "Smokepole" here on BB posted up his new UK legal EDC friction folder based on the classic "Sodbuster" pattern and it has attracted a fair bit of interest, so I've been talking with him about a group buy. Willem uses the makers mark "K'roo" in reference to the Great Karoo region of South Africa where he lives and works.

We are now ready to go, so here is a picture of the original knife, as commissioned by Corso of this parish, although the group buy knife will have the option of a Michael Morris authorised bottle opener extended tang:








The specs are as follows:

Overall open length is 145mm. Hollow ground 65mm blade of classic 01 steel. African hardwood handles, of which more below. Brass liners, a 5mm solid brass pivot, brass stops and spacers. Lots of lovely brass:





There are three wood options as well. First is Black Chacate as in the pictured friction folder above. Next there is the gorgeous rich red coloured African Paduak as used on this fixed blade by Willem:





And lastly Wild Olive as seen on another fixed blade by Willem:
