Identifying type, age of Joseph Rodgers & Sons knife

    Hi,

I recently found this Joseph Rodgers & Sons knife in my father's basement. The inscription has the G and R initials, so this is either from the reign of George V, or George VI. The knife has a curved blade, and wooden handle. My father is pretty sure it belonged to my grandfather, but he also thinks it might also have belonged to my great-grandfather (d. 1927), who would have passed it along to his son (my grandfather). The knife probably has no monetary value, but it does hold sentimental value. If it dates back to the reign of George V, then it is possible that it would have been in the possession of my great-grandfather. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,

i think this dates to George the 5th. It's unlikely to date after 1936. The marks for George the 6th were quite often different somehow.

I personally would date this to 1915-1920. The handle looks like rosewood. Worth about £20 in my opinion.

This pattern is called a skinning knife by the way.

That would make sense. My grandfather was a deer hunter.

    Thank you.

This is from a catalogue by Frothingham and Workman of Montreal, Canada 1907. They were importers and manufacturers of hardware and tools etc. As your knife is practically identical, this is what leads me to think it dates to 1915 time (shortly after).

I also have a Joseph Rodgers & Sons knife, believe it is a carving knife, but differs from the Victorian ones I've seen on the forum in that the marks are E and R on either side of the crown over cutlers to HIS magesty. It has a nice antler handle with silver fittings. Can anyone help identify the age?
    Thanks
