Nice little stove, I'd like one of those. I'm pretty hungry after watching that video too.

Having read some more reviews, I'm going to be placing one of these on order. Works out at £30 posted, which isn't too bad.

EDIT: Let's make that...I have just placed an order. If it arrives before Bardsters weekend, then I'll bring it along.

looks good 4 main things impress me about the video
    1, the machete
2, the bagged omelete, why have I never thought of that
3, how easy did he make lighting up look
4, the stove itself is quite good

The omelette looked great, but I've just read this about cooking in Zip-Lock bags.

He made the lighting look so easy we ought to be ashamed of ourselves with our new fangled firesteels, how did he do it so quick?

Ooh yes, the machete. Very nice.

if a freezer bag can go in a microwave it can go in boiling water,
and that link says that cheese gets hotter than water so can deterioate a zip lock bag, surely it only gets as hot as the water

It was more the leaching of compounds in the plastic into both the food and water that bothered me TBH.

Lakeland do boil in the bag bags, not sure how they seal though.

    And also zip and steam bags;

That looks to be a very good design.

At around 15 minutes in I could actually smell bacon

according to ziplock, the melting point of the plastic used in their bags is close to boiling point of water, which means there is a danger of plastic melting into the food. there are also cancer scares with that type of plastic when ingested too. ziplock state clearly that their bags should not be used in this way.

there are bags designed for cooking this way though and they are quite cheap.

Dammit, that's another thirty quid you guys have cost me!

Anyone any idea how long they take to arrive?

On the subject of cooking in bags, I came across these:

    http://www.qbag.com/index.html

I'm going to order some to try some out on a campfire.

I think it should be quick, the email response I got was almost immediate.

I'm going to publish the relevant parts of it here to answer a few questions. From Mikhail, who found BB on a Google search after a sudden influx of UK orders.....

"Oh yeah... If I may, I wanted to address some of the questions on your forum as I'm not a member..

The machete is an ontario 18in machete. I was playing around with my belt sander and convexed the entire blade. Then I created the pattern on the blade by staining it with mustard.
The wood I used for the hand drill is the flower stalk from a Yucca plant. It is by far the best wood I've ever used for that type of fire lighting. However, it took me months of blistered hands before I got my first coal. I understand the clematis plant over in your area works very well as does mullein. The bark I used was from from the juniper tree behind me, and it makes the best tinder nests around. I'm not terribly worried about cooking in the freezer bags. The egg starts to cook at much lower temperatures than boiling and it isn't a regular meal so the exposure to any possible carcinogens, in my opinion, is minimal. But after reading the article posted on the thread I may start carrying a roasting bag for this purpose.

Thanks again so very much. I love seeing the results of my tinkering in the garage going global. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me."

So, a very nice guy, and definitely one of us in terms of knife love

I'm emailing a reply back in a minute, and asking about a possible group buy.
