I just made a real balls-up gluing the handle and spacers onto a knife i've been working on for a year! One bloody spacer wasn't bedded down right!!! AAARGH!!!

Sorry to hear that, I think I know how that feels...type like...AAAARGGGHHH! in company with some serious bad language. But I bet you donīt make the same thing again.

But maybe it will be better fit further inside the handle? Or do you see the light all through the handle even before sanding/shaping?

    Cheers,

Yes, I can feel your pain. Glued up a guycep necker at the start of the week with carbon fibre and Desert Ironwood scales. Something went wrong and the DI has cracked and not seated right. It's the waste of the wood that annoys me most!!

This is my first full-tang with bolsters. Got the bolsters on great and everything was looking good. Spent days getting the slabs and spacers right. This was definitely going to be my best knife yet, quality of workmanship was paramount and time wasn't a factor! Perfect at all costs was my working theory....... then KABOOM!!!

    I blew it!!!

This is why knifemaking is so addictive. It's a pain / pleasure thing - you are always walking a tightrope between nailing it and f@*@$ing up. There are so many points you can screw up from start to finish, that to actually get to the end without a balls up is incredibly satisfying.

You're right there! All part of life's rich tapestry! I spent 18 months making my first acoustic guitar. Everything was perfect, if i wasn't happy with any part of it then i would scrap the part then make a new one. I just couldn't live with it if i knew it was flawed. Finished it and done 20 coats of lacquer then spent weeks buffing to perfection!............snapped it in half running for the train when taking it home!!!

You're right there Warren! My grandad always said, the man that never made a mistake never made anything, and he was right! Mistakes are just learning reminders.

You're absolutely right Pedersen! I'll get it right one of these days! Makes me think though, once i do get it right without any mistakes, have i achieved knife-making fulfilment?
