Re: What did you do to your truck today?
For once, I can actually say that I did something with it today.
After a bit of hassle, I actually got it started for the first time in some months. Probably the starting relay that have caved, as getting it running took a few futile attempts on the key, before going straight from the battery to starter. Then the 200Tdi chugged happily along almost spontaneously.
Towed a friends vintage Mercedes Gewagen with the Skoda, after the G found it suitable not to enter any other gears than reverse, so for the moment I have two rather old 4X4s on the driveway.Last edited by HPFlashman; 31-05-12 at 08:27 PM.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Broke it, Bodged it.
Its currently using engine oil and fuel at a 1:1 ratio... may need slightly more bodging and a heavier application of sealant later on... also occasionally sounds like someone has tied a hammer to the prop shaft... might be some kind of problem, i would just rather not look!
then theres the gearbox noises...
just needs to make it to November, no way its going to get through an MOT! what's the scrap value on 2 ton of rust these days?

the wheel, including most of the brake drum and the half shaft detached itself, punnched a 2" hole through the flat bed, bounced up hit the door then rolled down the A47.......... i was shocked a little!!
AA man: 'sending a mechanic out now sir'
Eddie: just send a recovery truck, not fixable by the roadside!'
AA man: 'company policy'
Eddie: bloddy wheel is not attached to the vehicle!'
AA man: 'sorry sir, its company policy'
Eddie: 'dont be ridiculous'
AA man: 'im sorry sir its company policy to send a mechanic first'
Eddie: '@£"#ing wheel and a spindle is not attached to the truck, you just wasted 10 minutes asking me how safe i was, now you wanna make me wait while you stick to company policy!'
AA man: (you guessed it) 'sorry sir its company policy'
2 minutes later, a text........ 'independent recovery service on route'..........POINTLESS!!!!
sorry Chast old mate , might put a dent in our plans!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Mate Im sorry to hear that, long as you are safe its a blessing. Nothing worse than looking at a wheel passing you by and thinking I have one just like that.. more so when its a caravan

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Drained the cooling system, and then flushed with a hose. Added a can of coolant flush and did what it said on the tin. Loads of crud came out, old truck so its to be expected. Filled with a 60% mix of antifreeze/summer coolant to 40% water ready for winter which is coming fast after a few days of morning frost and ice. Protected to -36 on this mix so should be fine for here.
Anyone else prepping for winter?
Brake warning light came on again, always does in the cold. Its really annoying

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Thank you, I'm starting to get it how I want it now. Still bits to do though.
It's call The Desert, and it's just off the A617 at Rainworth. It's been an un-official and illegal play ground for years, but someone has just started running organised pay'n'play days there every Sunday. I'm not going to be going too regularly (not until I pick this up, anyway
) because to be honest I prefer to get out 'laning, but it's great for learning the ropes and what the car is capable of.
