Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well my trucks had an oil flush, the oil filter changed... and 7.5 litres of 10W 40 oil slopped into her. I was thinking of doing the gear box oil next but know that tiny filler hole will be a right PITA to try and get it in... It is worth doing though. I also need to get the manual to work out how to check the levels in the diff too. BUT the oil change has made a difference on economy and its so much better... Well pleased. Garage quote was £130 with cheap 'o nasty parts. I got the filter for £8 and flush for £4. Oil was marked up as £25 a bottle, yes I know you can get cheaper but a harsh winter and scrimping on oils is daft. I got them for 18 quid each with my discount. Worth every penny and this filter goes for two changes too

Finally finished changing back discs and pads on my car (Mazda 6 not the Defender) was held up by a caliper bolt with a rounded head, someone had been there before me, tried all the usual tricks with gas torch and mole grips. I was going to give up when I thought I would try a set of Irwin 5 Piece Bolt Grip Set google it and you will see what they look like and they actually work! two minutes it took me to get the bolt out much easier than welding a new nut on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I've been working on my Landrover series 2A this weekend. I :

Took handbrake mechanism off and sharpened engaging pin so ratchet now works.
Put in new ICE system, ariel and charging point, so I can now listen to music/radio and charge my phone.
Bolted secure locking box into loadspace.
Put in second fuel tank, that I've converted to make into a secret locker to hide tools and equipment.
Put interior lights into speedo, so I can see how slow I'm going when it's dark.

just spotted this. diffs are easy. drain hole at the bottom and filler in the side. once drained, then just fill up till oil spills out the filler hole and put the cap back, job done. do be careful though cos your rear diff will prob need lsd oil and not normal gearbox oil. front is fine with gearbox oil. transfer box is just as easy

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

today i took advantage of the warm weather, and finally took care of a bit of welding on the chassis in the O/S wheel arch - a split had developed, and a 6 x 1.5" plate needed to be whacked in to repair. nice easy access once the wheel and the mudflap were off, so not too bad a job
Axels post has reminded me that i have a full fluid change to do as well!
next weekend for that i think...

How often do you do the gearbox oil?

    Considered washing it, then didn't.

Put a new fuel line in. Then hit carb with hammer until rage had passed. I hate tuning the engine.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

i do gearbox oil once every 12/18 months - usually nearer 12 - might be a bit overkill, but i figure that with a 15 year old gearbox, the more frequent the better.

Front ends off, blown turbos out all the parts are cleaned and washed ready to go back.

Shocks are off for new top bearings and a new TRE.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I painted the sump guards yesterday with hammerite to protect them and the tow bar. Then I noticed the exhaust seems to have 'shrunk'. In the sense that, parts of it are 'missing' meaning when I drove over the stump the day before it may have 'grabbed' it for itself.
I need a new backbox-tailpipe on the exhaust

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

    Look... its all fixed

Fuel economy is back, the big hit was I took an exhaust with fuel economy over the power side so its not as fast as it was, but fuel is being sipped not gulped... Really pleased with it. The old exhaust fixing bracket had to be used as the one that came with the exhaust tail pipe was meant for a shogun and the two pin spacings were different. BUT, that said, its all fixed, it works and Im well happy with it and a two year warranty...

I priced up the tyres to replace these when the other lift is done, 32"x11.5 are £125 EACH.... May hold off on the spare for a day or two
