First attempt to a scandi
Hello everyone.
This is my first attempt to make a knife. Here you can see some of the start materials - the instrumental steel bar, the boxwood (the possible handle material) and the knife (after the initial a-day-long-file work). Any of your critics and advices will be much valuable.

Re: First attempt to a skandi
The thickness is 6 mm - more then enough for such a knife-blade. It will be make thinner at the end - before the heat treatment. But with the files it will take some more time

Re: First attempt to a skandi
Looks good. Better with a radius from blade to tang, instead of 90 degree.
That may become a weak point.

Yes, thanks, the stress concentration is a concern during hardening. It' planned to be rounded.

Tolkien sneaks in when you're not looking
I really like the look, and from a fellow grinder challenged person, good file work

And for the Tolkien-beings, Crusty Metals - a 2002 trial after the "Fellowship of the ring" release in Bulgaria
"Sandwich" of AlMg sheet (from an old russian minesweeper) and mahogany; far from the excellence

Re: First attempt to a skandi
Just a little progress on the knife on the post card-sized work-place - a lot of unsuccessful filework, much more with the sandpaper, hurry wife-soon-to-come-cleaning
and finaly - some different wood pieces, in form of handle-candidates - wallnut, boxwood, mahogany, maple. Preliminary thanks for your critics!

But there was an exceptional present form friend of mine - a damascus blade, he forged in his new blacksmithing facility. Hope to not ruin it!

Re: First attempt to a skandi
great looking blade, it's got a no-nonsense aura - I'd be happy to make a knife out of it

tell me, you did this 'tolkien' sabre, too?
if so, excellent work, very nice lines and design.
