Smokepole Slipjoint GB
Hi folks
South African knifemaker Willem O'Kelly, aka Smokepole's recent UK legal EDC slipjoints have attracted a fair amount of attention. They include the following knives:
1. A Sodbuster style knife:
A Wharnecliffe bladed knife:
And his biltong knife, the very funky uThekwane or HammerHead:
All knives are have O1 steel 3.5mm blades, 3mm brass liners and brass pivots and pins.
Given the interest so far Willem and I have been working on a Group Buy. It makes sense to do this as Willem pays considerably less for posting a large package to the UK than several smaller ones and the SA postal service works very well nowadays. He can make a number of knives to a fixed schedule and we can negotiate a discount on the individual knife price as Willem will get a lump sum payment.
So, we have come up with this for you:
All three knives will be available.
Each knife will be available in the following handle options:
1. Wood: black chacate, red paduak, wild olive, wenge.
2. G10: Oange, Blue, Pink, Dark Green & Yellow (max 2 of the yellow)
3. Carbon fibre:
And now to the all important question of price. Willem would normally be selling these for around £100 - £120 depending on handle materials. Then there is the shipping costs from South Africa, UK Customs import costs, and posting via RMSD within the UK. THis last is essential as the knives must be fully insured, so will cost almost £6.00 each to post from me to buyers.
If we can get 12 buyers then Willem has agreed to these total prices. By that I mean this is what you will pay, plus any PP fees if applicable:
All wooden handles: £72.00
All G10 handles: £77.00
Carbon fibre handles: £87.00
Willem has said that 20 knives will be the maximum for this GB.

Re: Smokepole Slipjoint GB
Ah, sorry mate, didn't mean to stress you out!
But for anyone who may have fired off a PM to Willem asking for one of these already, he has told me that he will of course tie them in with the GB knives, over and above this GB list.
Now....keep calm and carry on....

Re: Smokepole Slipjoint GB
Hi Everyone! You go to bed early for a change and this is what happens!!
Thank you - I am flattered by how this is going and very much looking forward to making the knives!
A few things - Dave, jkm, Lucky, no problem on the springs.
Dan is right, a few people have PM'ed me and I will include them, regardless. Any one who indicated interest in the initial thread will also be accommodated even if they have not listed here yet - I will give them a chance to list themselves until tomorrow or so and then list them myself.
Thank you all again and enjoy what is left of your weekend!
