Re: Group-buy - Gareth Bull folder, South Africa
Chui,
not back in the UK yet so have only just seen this thread. If there is a reserve list could you please put me on it as I'd love one of these.
Thanks,

Here's a visual of the floating lanyard pin in the large WarLock

You can see it at the very end of the handle (nearest the palm) - Marthinus photo again

Re: Group-buy - Gareth Bull folder, South Africa
Gareth
Note that in your thread ''Pics of my work'' you say of SA Hunter - heavily modified by Marthinus. As I believe this is the knife we have been looking and which appears in the Youtube videos how does this differ from the group buy?? I know that the pivot pin will be a torx rather than the SA type pin.
Thanks
Paul

Hey Uzumlubay
This GB got kicked off in a thread in the "Custom knives" section and subsequently moved here from what I can see.
Here's the link http://www.britishblades.com/forums/...y-of-pictures)
The orange framelock seen towards the end of Marthinus's post kicked this all off.

Eh? Where does it say the pivot will be a torx instead of the lovely pivot pin? I love the pivot pin in the one we've seen photos of - gives it nice character and also says "custom knife" when teamed up with the box, tool etc.
Clarification of exactly what the GB knife will be like and if it comes with the box, tool etc would be good! Will it feature the double washers at the pivot? The same "slicer" grind? RWL34 with the same heat treatment?Last edited by TallNHairyDave; 07-01-12 at 11:57 PM.

Re: Group-buy - brilliant folder from SAfrica - one place left
Hey TNH, I think I emailed uzumlubay (today's been insane, I'm getting fuzzy) but he's right, I had intended to repplace the 5 pin with a Torx head so that you guys in UK could easily maintain your knives/switch out handles. The 5 pin is made here in SA by another knifemaker and I think you can only get his wrenches from South African suppliers. That said, the pins cost me exactly the same so if anyone prefers the aesthetics of it, it's not a hassle for me, just means another round of posting for you lot

Re: Group-buy - Gareth Bull folder, South Africa
Whoa whoa, ok let's consolidate.
Here's a pic of the knife Chui got hold of me about, it seems there's confusion about models, (just did a check and an older thread by Marthinus has re-surfaced, it's likely led to this miscummunication)

A mod (Basemetal I think) shifted all the GB stuff from there to here, Marthinus's SA hunter never appeared in the OP that sparked this. Sorry for the confusion.
I think everyone on the list should double check that they're onboard with the design etc.

Re: Group-buy - Gareth Bull folder, South Africa
If it's not against any rules, here's my suppliers page http://www.kmts.co.za/Main.asp?D=%7B...oduct&SKU=DPRW , as you can see it'll cost me R100 (GBP7) plus local shipping, which is about the same, but if i order a few it'll bring down the price per person obviously. Simply cover my costs and we're all good.
Yup, as per boxes, they'll all come in a similar box to the one the SA hunter comes in, but instead of a etched plate they'll have my new corporate coloured logo sticker. They'll be tailored to each knife so regardless if you have more or less extra scales I'll customise them to fit all nice and tidy.

Ah, that clarifies things Gareth!. Thanks for that and thanks for confirming that they'll come with a box

I thought the one in that thread WAS Martinhus' SA hunter.... It looks the same one! I really like the design of the orange one in the original thread by Martinhus, so I'm still in based on that.
Could you clarify exactly what the plan is with the GB one though... Is it still RWL34? Will it have the double washers at the pivot and the slicer grind like Martinhus's folder?
I've amended my entry in the list below to reflect that I'd like the 5 hole pin & the wrench extra
01. TNHDave - tip-up right hand carry / orange / extra carbon-fibre / extra digi-camo / CRK-type floating pin / 5 hole SA pivot pin + SA pin wrench extra
02. Gizmo - tip-up / orange / extra black / CRK-type floating pin
03. Chui - tip-up / carbon-fibre / no extra scales / CRK-type floating pin
04. Ronan- tip-up /orange/ extra carbon fibre / extra digi camo / CRK-type floating pin
05. JerseyBob - tip-up / Orange G10 / Extra Carbon-Fibre / Extra Digi-camo / CRK-style pin on the Ti side please + holes drilled for clip for tip down carry
06. HTG - tip-up / black / extra orange / CRK-type floating pin
07. omarcomarco - tip-up / black / extra orange / CRK-type floating pin
08. Relin - ????
09. Gordo-uk - tip-up / black / extra digi camo / extra carbon fibre / CRK-type floating pin

Re: Group-buy - Gareth Bull folder, South Africa
Whoops, completely scanned over that part of your post, my apologies.
Yup, Rwl34 blades with Marthinus's grind (probably why you say it looks so similar - he wanted a matching pair!), it's based on Rick Hinderer's slicer grind.
All my folders (save for thrust bearing knives) have double washers, from my experience it kicks the action up a notch.
The hardening is standard for all my folders, so it'll be exactly the same.
