Cool The Glowworm (aka a new Tritium-Lantern)

    Hello!

After my first custom projekt, the Bead-Bomb, i decided to start with a
new project, the Glowworm, a tritium-lantern in a similar design...

The design was developed and worked out by a good friend (THANKS Ben)
of mine and I will do the rest...

This is a tritium-lantern made of titanium (what else?!) housing a 3x22.5mm
tritium vial hold in place by a screw; means you can change the vial if
you want a new color or when it get darker.

The design is very komplex, but looks very cool IMO.

There will be again different designs, beadblasted and i will also anodize
there in some nice colors, perhaps again in a nice toxic green.

Specs: 50mm in length and 10mm in diameter

I would like to hear your opinion...

That is how it will look like:

That looks cool Toby - I think I'll be in the queue for one of these!

I think it would be good to join up the drilled holes so that instead of having the six small holes you have three larger oval slots - that would let more light out...

The hole size would be my main concern too. Green trits would be ok, but I think the other colours may struggle to be seen.
Warren Earp: Wyatt, you're still a marshal around here, aren't you?
Doc Holliday: Sure. But now he's going to be a marshal and an outlaw. Best of both worlds, son.

There will also other colors for the trits

    Like iceblue, blue or purple.

The hole size will be about 4cm, i dont really know at the moment.
The cool is, that you can change the vial if you like.

For sure green is the brightest color for the trits.

How much light do these things put out when placed in a clear tube? I've never seen one in the flesh. The holes do look a tad small to me.

These large trits are quite bright in total darkness. You won't see any glow in daylight.

About as bright as GITD powder after half an hour.

I think the design is very slick Toby, but I do reckon you should try to make the most of the limited light output by making larger windows.

The Tec Accessories version has large windows and is very effective whichever colour tritium vial I put in. It can also be seen from all angles, I'm not sure your design would.

Hard to say without seeing it for real though.

New pic added for size comparison

I wanted to have a design, that is different from other Tritium-Lanterns.
The holes are around the body, as you can in the second pic, you will see it
from every angel. Tha advantage of such smaller holes, is that the vial is
protected very well. When you wear it at the keyring, there are often small
keys or other gadgets, that could damage the vial, but not with my Lantern.

Due to that thuoght its a very diffizil design, with much holes.

Yes, that's a very good point, breaking one of those would be very dangerous to ones health I would guess??

It's such a small quantity that it shouldn't pose a problem, even if you eat it.

As the tritium in the body would be T2O (water) the body will expel half of it every 10 days. Or quicker if you drink more fluids.

    Very slick design Toby!

I assume you meant 4mm hole size 'cause if those are 4cm holes that's a HUGE chunk of Ti for on your keys

I'm with ukmidnite and Nice65, I'd like to see a rendering with the pairs of holes joined up so you have 3 short slots in each recess to let more light out from the tritium... Even with that, the size of the slots should still give the tritium cell decent protection from accidental knocks...
