Camelbak omega
Morning! Not sue if this is the right place for this but does anybody know the best way to patch a small hole in the omega reservoir that is food safe ?
I've tried duck tape but it does not stay put for long
I may have to replace so on another note what do ye think of the MSR systems
They are pricey but look bomber

Being risk averse I think you may need to plan on a replacement. The pressure these bladders can be put under in a well stuffed pack puts the rest of your gear at risk of a soaking if a repair pops. There are repair patches but the foodsafe aspect may make them unsuitable.
If you want a free no name brand 2 litre bladder for you to add your mouthpiece to drop me a PM.Thaik hai, babu!

If you're open to alternative brands; I strongly urge you look at Source Hydration - I switched a few years ago and haven't looked back

Re: Camelbak omega
I found that my Camelbak leaked at the mouth piece (even after replacement), and the cap was very difficult to screw down tight enough.
Also, and perhaps more importantly, it would get nasty gunky in the tube, and in the bag.
I now have four Source (3l, two 2l and a 1l kangaroo) and they often have isotonic drinks inside and a simple rinse out does the trick. They have never leaked and I trust both the screw cap and the slide top.
Of course I hang them to dry before putting them away. Most of the time.

Re: Camelbak omega
Sounds like a replacement is in order, but you are on top of that.
Yes, as mentioned; its vital to rinse and hang to dry. I have one of those Camelbak frames to put in the bladder and use it every time, I have had water in the Camelbak.

Re: Camelbak omega
Why bother trying to repair it? Camelbak have a Lifetime Warranty. Get a claim in.

Re: Camelbak omega
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Camelbak have an excellent warranty service. They are insanely cocky about how amazing and tough their products are so would be surprised if they just turned you away with a broken one.
It's always worth a try. I'm now infamous with a few people for returning things all the time and getting them repaired or replaced.. when some one might just throw it away and buy a new one. Always worth a try mate.

Re: Camelbak omega
Thanks for the advice my camelback was always full of water as I used it everyday I used ito put lemon juice in it to stop the growth of nasties
I think it got a puncture due to normal wear and tear which is not covered under their warranty and I did contact them to see did they supply patches
It could be worth a go though to claim but then I'd have to search through the bin to get it
I like the look of the MSR ones because they are covered
However at the mo thanks to the generosity of mr metal budgie it may be a while before I'll do a review on them

Re: Camelbak omega
I use a MSR one. It's taken a lot of punishment over the years that I've had it, including a motorcycle accident in Namibia (where the bite-valve mysteriously vanished - maybe I swallowed it?!) They are really hard wearing, so far mine has lasted some pretty rough handeling for over 5 years! But for me the icing-on-the-cake is the fact that my MSR hyperflow water filter screws straight onto it. Also replacement parts are easy to find for those odd moments when you loose the bite-valve!

Re: Camelbak omega
Yes, I noticed that Camelbak gave that advice (stick it in the freezer). Should work fine.
I have several Camelbaks (got one issued each tour and its not really something others want to re-use) and store/hang them with the 'frame' (for lack of better words) in place. So not just for drying but also for when not in use in general.
That way the risk of crud building up in the bladder is (hopefully) minimized.

Re: Camelbak omega
A quick question if you bladder users don't mind
I bought one last summer (Can't recall the make now and as it's been put away I can't easily get to it) and used it maybe half a dozen times. I used a combination of plain water and sometimes some squash as well. How the blithering blue blazes do you get rid of that plasticky, rubbery foul taste!!!
I rinsed it with fresh water, I rinsed it with bicarb, I tried lemon juice and everything I could think of but just couldn't get rid of it and that caused me to not bother using it and going back to a couple of bottles. Any advice would be most helpfull
