    Anvil recognition for dummies... (and powerhammers)

    Bewildered and confused by the many different types of anvil? Well suffer no more, below are a few pages from the book 'Mousehole Forge' showing the names of the various anvil types.
    Note the 'edged tool' makers anvil below.

    Thats interesting...took me ages to load it cos of my slow connection, but worth it.

    I guess the top list shows the prices ion 1906.

    Strange cutlers anvil.........I want one

    How do you draw the steel out if you got no horn?
    You can use the cross peen on the back of the hammer, or you can put a bottom fuller in the hardy hole.

    Very useful reference sticky type post for the metal bashers and spark production forum? No ?
    Just do stuff. The kit doesn't have to be perfect.

    Thanks for that! I'll have to get myself a copy of that book.

    I used to walk past the Mousehole forge every day on my way to school.

    The pub across the road is still called the Anvil.

    I hate the horn for drawing out. I found it better to make a big drawing hammer.

    what an awsome selection of picks ,Ive just been striping down a 1/2 hundred weight massey slide hammer and found today that the valve mechanism has snaped in twixt wich is i guess near death to a 60 year old power hammer I guess that i now own a 6 foot tall 1 tone garden sculpture.the picks do warm my heart
