    Re: Apocalypse Build along

I was going to make a sort of mini "bad axe" (kinda like the cold steal one), with a hole in each bit(?)/side, and the middle hole with the one below it being used to bolt the handle on...

    Re: Apocalypse Build along

cos I forgot to put up photos of it before, here is the knife that I made before I started on the sword

    sideways on

    with the bar

the tip, not really satisfied with the grind

    the false edge and thickness

the knife is very heavy, and actually stood up quite well to being hammered through a can to get WD40 out (run out of propellant), although it hasn't been sharpened enough for wood carving... I really should do that

    Re: Apocalypse Build along

I begin to fear that I may have offended the gods in some small way.
Progress on this offering has been slow. The simple matters of day-to-day living seem to occupy so much of my time.

Nevertheless, I have not been completely idle. The handle is complete.
The old leather belt that I found has provided the wrapping.

And the copper cable has become an overwrap.

I have re-hardened the can opener tang, and made plans for the sheath.

And there it stands. Usable, but not complete. There is still much to do.

I am once again in the hands of the gods of provedance.

We shall see if they decide to be merciful.

    Re: Apocalypse Build along

I am Ish from the mountain warriors, we are those who find paths from a time that is now lost and travel in to the "dead lands" we pack light and scavenge as we go!

We travel as soon as the fireball in the sky warms us and melts the snow beneath our feet.
We are friends of Tad from the sand clan who makes our fangs and gives us the means to hunt for the people and fight of the canibals of the bad land!

We have to cross the vast open land of the old but we also worship the rhino and inherit the good kit of the fathers before us!

We will continue on the search of the old ways and will meet with tad and the sand clan to get our new tools but the road is long and dangerous and takes time.....

    Re: Apocalypse Build along

So, after the hiatus, are the faithful to convene again and see this thing finished?
If so, here is the final news of my offering.

The gods of providence have granted me the time to complete The Bastard.

The vinyl sheet that I found on my initial scavenge was cut to shape.

    Sheath_1 by one_rod, on Flickr

    Heated and formed.

    Sheath_2 by one_rod, on Flickr

Stitching it together with the steel wire I found is not something I would care to do again. But it complied with rite and rule, and now is done.

    Sheath_3 by one_rod, on Flickr

And so the long journey to completion is done...
