Re: Apocalypse KITH or Build along ?
Today while scavenging the NW area of the peninsula, I came across a scene that was both tragic and great good fortune ...

tragic for the poor bloke that was holding onto the hatchet when whatever End of Days beast came a calling, what was he up to I wonder ? Beginning to carve himself a bowl ? Going to carve his initials into this big hunk of downed elm ? Who knows how he was passing the time or what monster ended his pleasant endeavor ? From the teeth marks in the sleeve I'd guess it was a Giant Badger that took him.
And great good fortune for me to find a hatchet head !!

After procuring the hatchet head I was scouring around in a big estate garage, up in a storage loft I found a maple baluster, hmmmmm, I remembered the good old days, sitting and browsing the BB Members Projects forum and seeing the beautiful work of papstomahawks and it came to me that the strings of foraging fate were pulling me to make a Ciupaga !! An ApocaCiupaga !!

With this rusty old hatchet head born of tragedy and this solitary maple baluster I will make an ApocaCiupaga !!Last edited by puukko3883; 28-02-12 at 03:40 AM.

Re: Apocalypse KITH or Build along ?
ok so mine is done but forgot to get pics, but a quick description.
old billhook with knackered handle sorta like this one
http://www.timelesstools.co.uk/images/588%20nash.JPG
now dispose of little girly knackered handle and securely mount blade to pick-axe handle and sharpen both both sides.
tested it today and it does all that is listed in first post.
the only problem i have is when opening canned goods, the contents go everywhere
but it was not stated thet had to stay in the can.

Re: Apocalypse KITH or Build along ?

leighwill1, yes, yes you're right !! No one said anything about this, the whole idea is to get the goods out of the can !!
From the description (we need pics !!) your marvelous PA (post apocalypse) tool both opens and extracts !!
Pics, we must have pics !! How are we to judge the worth of this PA tool without pics ?!Old Norwegian proverb:
Behind the clouds the sky is always blue.

I'll have to check this thread out good and proper when I get back on shore!
I look forward to it!

Re: Apocalypse KITH or Build along ?
Thanks for reading it guys. I'm really enjoying writing it and all the scavenging I did today. The dogs are enjoying it too, I think I've walked more miles with them in the last few days than I did the whole of December! Although it's only fiction it's actually quite an interesting project, and sheds a whole new light on my survival skills. I've always thought of myself as quite self-reliant and having spent quite a lot of time outdoors in various climates have thought that I would be reasonably capable in a survival situation, but today was the first time I've actually put some of those skills to practice. Never realized how difficult it is to actually light a fire without matches!

Re: Apocalypse KITH or Build along ?
By all means stay on the pages of the better half's good books !!

leighwill1 if you're going to the armory then I'll give you a cryptic tip concerning something you could "forage for" there and use as a lanyard fob, not just any fob but a fob that has almost limitless survival capabilities, here's a list of some of the things it can do;
1. Can opener, 2. Seam ripper, 3. Screwdriver, 4. Clean fingernails, 5. Cut fishing line, 6. Open paint cans,7. Window scraper, 8. Scrape around floor corners, 9. Digging, 10. Clean out groove on tupperware lids, 11. Reach in and clean out small cracks, 12. Scrape around edge of boots, 13. Bottle opener, 14. Gut fish (in the field), 15. Scale fish (in the field), 16. Test for completion when baking on a camp fire, 17. Prying items, 18. Strip wire, 19. Scrape pans in the field, 20. Lift key on flip top cans, 21. Chisel, 22. Barter, 23. Marking tool, 24. Deflating tires, 25. Clean sole of boot/shoe, 26. Pick teeth, 27. Measurement, 28. Striking flint, 29. Stirring coffee, 30. Puncturing plastic coating, 31. Knocking on doors, 32. Morse code, 33. Box cutter, 34. Opening letters, 35. Write emergency messages, 36. Scratch an itch, 37. Save as a souvenir, 38. Rip off rank for on-the-spot promotions, 39.
