    Re: Apocalypse Build along

    So here it begins, the story of my offering to this ritual.

    I am known amongst the Saved as one _rod, a dweller in the Low Peaks.

    As is the rule of this rite, and the proclamation of the Lawgiver, the material for the offering has been gathered from amongst the shattered and dissolute remains of our once proud civilization.
    Nothing bartered nor offered in trade.

    But where to find such material?
    Not in the remains of the cities, that is for sure. Passing nomads tell us of what goes on there. It would take a braver man than me to venture in, even in the full light of day.
    So the littoral then. That unloved no-mans-land between the quarantine barriers and the clean countryside beyond.

    Few go there, and already nature has begun to reclaim it for her own, but for now the gods of provedance can still smile upon the determined scavenger.

    Yes, a good days haul.

    But already, night approaches and with it the need to retreat to the relative safety of home.
    There I will plan the work ahead...

    Re: Apocalypse KITH or Build along ?

    Pickled Eggs & Treasure

    Life has always had a serious string of strange running through it, that string in these Post Apocalypse days has become one inch diameter nylon mooring line.

    And this one inch diameter mooring line of strange ran directly through the abandoned farm house kitchen and pantry I salvaged today. Some great booty for sure, a full bag of dried navy beans, a half full (note the optimism) can of ground coffee, six dry bags of Lipton tea (I'll drink a cup of this tonight and think best wishes to my Brit Apocalypse Survivor Brethren ), a can of Spam (a can of Spam to Ru Titley, so he has written and so it shall be done), three large kitchen knives, a cleaver !! And the strangest and most valuable find, a Mason jar full of pickled eggs;

    I didn't notice this at first but once I pulled it out of my salvage bag back at my den I noticed and asked the cat; "Why is there a dried up hard leather key ring fob hanging off this jar of pickled eggs ? What is attached to the string that's going inside the jar ? A little cloth bag of pickling spices ? Is this jar of pickled eggs some kind of anti-pantry pilferer booby trap ? Did the old farmer soak his upper plate of false teeth in his pickled eggs at night ?" The cat had no answers.

    I lifted and looked through the glass of the jar, there was something there in amongst the eggs and onions and pepper and white vinegar, something silvery, something ... obtuse, shimmery. I carefully opened the jar and pulled the dried up leather key fob with the hole in it, pulled on the string and slowly ever so slowly lifted the shiny silver shimmering mystery from the eggs ...

    I looked and looked at this vinegar dripping thing ? It was ... something carefully wrapped in plastic ? I sat it down on my cutting board and opened the little plastic bag wet with vinegar and egg and onion and pepper ... and there ... there was ... a treasure that only The Law Giver Ru Titley (so he has written and so it shall be done) could imagine;

    seven pieces of steel from Pre-Apocalypse legend and in this Post Apocalypse world seven pieces of steel of incredible value, there on my cutting board five p38s and two p51s !! I laughed with joy, danced a little jig with the cat, ate two of the pickled eggs, some onion (delicious !) and drank a swallow of the vinegar !! Oh happy days !! Oh happy happy days !! Oh happy strange days !!

    Re: Apocalypse Build along

    It's been sometime since the infected took over the towns.I found myself safer on the moors and tors.Safer from the infected that is,packs of once domestic dogs roam the moors,picking off what little live stock is left,and any weaker survivors of "the infection" that stray onto my,i mean their,territory.

    My so called "hard use" knives from before have long since become broken and useless...but i guess we've had cause to redefine "hard use" in the past few years...but i did find a broken Katana in a now deserted inn on the moor,and managed to cobble together this and that to make it usable as a tool...

    Paracord,a parting gift from another survivor who briefly shared my bit of the moor,until he tried to out run a group of dogs...they toyed with him for ages it seemed like,i can still hear the choking screams as they finally mobbed him whilst i watched helplessly from up on the tor that i call my "home"

    Some boots i took from someone who had no further use for them made a handy belt carry loop,once they'd been re-modelled

    The sheath is mostly made from the hides of things that i have eaten...

    ...or things that have tried to eat me...

    ...or tried to steal from me...

    The blade itself has many a tale to tell

    Re: Apocalypse Build along

    Ade brought this up to the meet up at My place and it is truely great , the workmanship on the sheath is so original and fully functional as is the sword , cutting through those plastic bottles filled with water was great fun if not a little nervey.
