You should be able to get 2.5mm brass rod on ebay.

Re: Folder buildalong (Finished)
Well, finally started one of two today, its my Dads birthday on the 21st of March and i thought i would give him this as a present.
I selected a Di slab i had kicking about as i could (just) get 2 sets of scales from one block.
Rough cut with coping saw

I then smoothed out the backs of the Di and roughed up the liners to make sure the Epoxy would set well
All glued and clamped:

That was the trickiest clamp job ever as the scales are so close to the liners in places (size wise) i couldnt afford even a couple of mm of slip in some places. In hindsite i probably should have drilled out the Di first and pinned before gluing, at least it would have been rock solid, still, should all be fine after a lot of buggering about lining them up!
My grinder has been locked away for a while as i can only use it in the garden (dust), and with the lack of light at night at the moment its been a weekend job only, well, im away for the next 2 weekends so the only way im going to get this done in time is the old fashion way of doing things by hand, why oh why did i choose Di, hand filing and sanding is going to be a sod!

Just my 2c
I prefer to not use nickelsilver rod for pivot, it is quit some soft IMO, but I know it's a matter of preferences maybe.
And after some experiments I never feel good with epoxy and scales, even if they are clamped. Now I'm going vs gel superglue. Any experience?

Re: Folder buildalong (Finished)
Epoxy dried, looks like i JUST got away with the liners and the wood matching up, bit close for comfort!!!

Cleaned up after gluing, next job is sanding to flush, might take a while with a file but its probably the way im going to have to do it!

Re: Folder buildalong (Finished)
Nice looking scales Relin. It took me quite awhile to file and sand mine. I'm just about to move on to the assembly tomorrow. Will post a pic or two if it turns out ok. Best wishes everyone.

Re: Folder buildalong (Finished)
Got the Bolsters riveted on mine after spending far too long sawing and filing them down from what started as a 2 inch square of 3/4 inch thick material by hand.
The scales have been rough cut and glued onto the webs and I started polishing the spring and tang only to find I didn't have any 240 or 320 grit paper.

Re: Folder buildalong (Finished)
Managed to grab an hour of lab time today, cheekily managed to use my small sanding drums on the pillar drill (without getting too much of a layer of dust all over the works lab) , saving me a fair amount of time filing this down. Got the webbs and the scales flush:

Also managed to polish all the visible metal bits with the dremel, upon closer inspection my blade seems to have a bit of a "hump back", i hadnt noticed that before, the tip seems a little bent too, ah well, you probably wont notice when i have polished the blade up and put an edge on it.
Another pic of the scales now flush. Now i need to get on the grinder as they are about 8mm thick each side at the moment, reckon i need to half that and then round them off!
Next job will be fine polishing the front of the scales, reading Russ's tutorial you cant easily fine polish with the blade fitted so im going to have to take all the bits home and hit it through the grits and finish up with the micromesh before assembling
Gotta get this finished by Friday week in theory!

What grades are people starting with to polish up the blade and get rid of the.tooling marks?, I'm going at it with the 180 wet and dry and its being a tad stubborn

This is excellent stuff chaps!
It's great to see the different approaches to the same end and how problems are solved.
So very well done to you and for showing.

now I've run out! I've been searching for some nickel-silver bar, but can't find any wide enough, even from this place:
