Raleigh youth camp in Borneo
Some of you are probably familiar with Raleigh International. The organisation takes youngsters on treks around the globe, teaching them self reliance skills and a sense of purpose. They are often high school graduates that haven't quite figured out what to do with their lives yet.
This year's group held a little special meaning to me, as one of the students was my nephew.
I am one of many volunteers who accompany them, working with the country directors. Along the way, we often meet indigenous people that teach us volunteers a thing or two (or more).
He's there for three months, working on different projects. The first one was to build an outpost for scientists in the Borneo jungle.
Here's a short video.

Great stuff, Maarten. Geez, I'd love to do that and help kids .......
Now, I wonder what knife(s) you take along with you ?
I love not Man the less, but Nature more
It's not the years in our life that matter.......it's the life in our years

Quite honestly, most of anything I have done with a knife could have been easily and safely accomplished with a SAK and a small hatchet.
But to impress the kids I used a Stu Mitchell this year, stain resistant RWL34 and kydex. Perfect combo when it is hot and damp!

Thanks for sharing Nightfly. Looks rather fun with the ample supply of dirt and mud. Nice choice of blade too

Didn't know about the organisation but just checked out the website. Looks interesting. Might look into it more when I sort out my work situation.
