    Re: Giving away timber

I have a fair bit of English spalted elm. The same as used on this knife http://www.britishblades.com/forums/...ght=burl+leuku

I'd be very keen to swap some for a nice piece of birch if anyone is that way inclined

If I can get a hold of some more birch burr from my tame forest worker, I'm up for swapping. As it is, he never found any the last two springs, and the last of my useful pieces are going to woodnut. Keeping a couple of pieces for myself, for which I have a planned use.

Jeepers, John is sending Scotland away bit by bit in small parcels by post!

I hope the Scotsmen on here notice this, before it's too late!

    Re: Giving away timber

Wonderful news today. The package arrived from Juha aka Bewildered, containing a splendid selection of wood and a section of antler. I can't wait to start using some of it .

The bad news is........That packet of my all time favorite biscuits........was empty. Never mind, with all that lovely wood to go at I am sure I will get over it.
Many thanks to Juha, today I am very happy, Regards John. www.john-hodgson.co.uk

    Re: Giving away timber

I have axed down to pieces a small quantity of white ash blanks. The wood has been drying for 20 years and is VERY hard with large rings. I've got about 10 blanks to trade. I have also some very old walnut too (about 3 or 4 blanks). It's very dark and incredibly hard. I had hard time cutting it ! Please, message me if you want anything.

Reviving the thread, in case people missed it, somehow
All the wood is still available as previously described.
I can now proudly add some fresh white willow.

Very generous, trollfot! And thanks for the reminder - I owe Mikew some birch burl, as he sent me a nice piece of spalted elm burr a few weeks ago!

    Re: Giving away timber

I spent the morning splitting a huge platanus burr. The wood is orange-pink. It's not very figured, but it looks very nice
I have about 15 blanks, at the moiment. They are uneven, because I do everything with a big axe, splitting wedges. I then finish the work with a small saw and an axe.
The blanks are a bit oversized. Let me know if you are interested. I can take pictures of the wood, if needed
