Summer Travel Jacket
Hi folks,
I wonder if you can help, I'm in the market for a travel jacket for the summer. Doesn't need to be waterproof, preferably cotton, and plenty of internal pocket space. It's mostly for air travel (i fly most weeks) so I can chuck all my gear in the jacket and stroll through the metal detector unmolested.
I'm not after anything too overtly military (and I'd shoot myself before buying anything with zip off sleeves...) just something reasonably low key and very breathable.
I'm thinking about talking to hilltrek, although ventile is way overkill for this.
Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

Re: Summer Travel Jacket
I suggest the Assignment Jacket by Rohan.
I've only ever tried it on, but it would be perfect for your needs. Very light, very breathable and full of pockets. It's a very soft fabric; I imagine it would be very comfortable to wear.

Fjallraven do a good range of things like this. Look at the Montt. Thy just opened a branch in Vancouver. Their stuff is uncheap except in seasonal sales, but the prices here had me rolling around holding my sides larfin'.
You don't fancy an M60?

Re: Summer Travel Jacket
Thanks guys but the Montt sounds like a winter jacket and I'm very unsure of Rohan stuff as it's all synthetic (I think?). If I'm in London in the next few weeks I'll drop in to Rohan and have a look anyway, cheers.
Was really looking for recommendations for summer weight cotton jackets.
Cheers

Re: Summer Travel Jacket
I have one - the Montt is definitely a summer jacket - especially if you get a lighter coloured one. You can get it with a dropliner and fluffiness, but the bogstandard is just a single layer of polycotton
Very breathable, dries in seconds. Zero water resistance, OK wind resistance

Yep, the Orvis range is brilliant, have a few things of theirs..........though a tad costly.
Made in great quality, they cater for safari goers and fly-fisherman too, have been doing it years - take a look...... http://www.orvis.co.uk/store/product...subcat_id=5533Last edited by Chui; 20-04-12 at 08:27 AM.

Re: Summer Travel Jacket
Thanks for the info guys, I'll try and find someone who stocks the montt and have a look.
Orvis, now there lies a tale..... I bought a Zambezi twill jacket a couple of years ago. I had my doubts about the leather patches etc but I bought it anyway as it ticks all the boxes. Having tried it on at home it really looks bad on me. For once I agree with swmbo and the orvis is consigned back to the wardrobe. If only they made one without all the leather frippery.
Re the M60, did you mean M65?
I'll try and get to London tomorrow and have a look at the Rohan.

- don't consign Orvis as a whole to the back of your cupboard though

I have sent stuff back and had postage reimbursed too, their Cust Serv are top notch..........and, they've still printed/published on web why I did not like in the ReviewsI love not Man the less, but Nature more

Re: Summer Travel Jacket
I've nothing against leather per se, it's the random use of leather frippery on what is otherwise a perfectly good bit of cotton that annoys me......
Victor Meldrew moment over
Update: I was wandering through Dusseldorf airport last night and found a shop that had not one but a number of likely candidates by Barbour, Belstaff (how much
)Ralph Lauren and Gant. Expensive but some nice stuff.
Off to London later but I have a feeling that I might pick up the RL Cedarwood Mohawk jacket on Sunday when I go back through. I know it's more of a fashion item but it's cut quite short (if you're a tall skinny RL model type) so it's perfect for a short fat bloke like me
. Plenty of pockets and I'm sure my local schneiderei can make a few useful enhancements to the pockets. It's not perfect but it's a good start.
The search for the perfect summer travel jacket continues..... (I wonder how many jackets I can sneak past SWMBO
).
Cheers for all the advice so far. I'll try and post an update if I make it into Rohan and Orvis later.

Re: Summer Travel Jacket
What did you go for in the end mate? I'm eyeing up a new summer jacket myself. Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Fjallraven Nordli.
