Thule roof bars
Just wondered what people opinions are on Thule roof bars? I have been given a car roof box, and a set of Thule bars (853 feet), unfortunately the bars cannot be adapted to fit my car (they came off a modern mini). I am trying to decide whether its worth trying to track down the bits I need on ebay (753 feet, 761 bar, 3061 adapter plate), or just buy a set of fixedpoint bars for around £60.

Re: Thule roof bars
They're a little expensive in my opinion but on a plus side the oval shaped ones cut down the wind noise a lot on the motorway.
I found a lot of sellers on ebay and managed to get the bars second hand fairly cheap but ended up buying the feet new as i got a full set of keys that way.
Hope this helped.
Spence.

I have had three on my HZJ78 cruiser for four years hard African use. No complaints at all. Carrying a rooftent all over terrain from deserts to swamps and I have not had to adjust or tinker with anything.

Re: Thule roof bars
I've had Halfords ones and Thule ones in the past few years.
Used the Halford ones to carry a "sit on" kayak and a "half" type roofbox on a Passat Estate. Bought a 2nd "sit on" and had to change to Thule bars as I needed wider bars to allow the two kayaks and the box.
Can't say I have noticed any difference in how they perform.

I carry two 15' canadian canoes on mine at least once a week..I regularly drive from Cornwall to Snowdonia with them and having tried a few makes over the years I can honestly say I would'nt use anything but Thule.

Re: Thule roof bars
Cheers for the info. Probably going to try and stick with Thule, just watching ebay for the parts I need.

Re: Thule roof bars
I have used roof bars for years for carrying canoes, bikes and for work. When ever I bought non Thule stuff I have regretted it.
Now when I change my car I just look up the Thule parts I need and go and buy them.

Re: Thule roof bars
Thule every time.
The only time I don't is if the car I have comes with factory fitted side rails and they have the ergonomically designed cross bars to fit.
Anything else just does not give me the peace of mind I want.
