    2.8 diesel shogun turbo issue

the beast has recently developed what i think might be a turbo problem. when pulling away quickly, or getting up to speed through the gears, it seems to lag back slightly - It feels a bit like the gear lag on an old automatic if that makes any sense, ( mine is a manual transmission though)
it also won't go above 80mph on the flat (not that this is a huge thing, but i mention it as a possible symptom)
it's an R reg lwb if that's relevant.
does this sound like a turbo issue? it drives absolutely fine apart from this
    any advice gratefully received

it could be turbo, but you could look at a couple of cheaper fix options first. change the fuel filter and clean the egr valve if fitted, particularly if the truck is a bit more smokey that it used to be.

another area that could be causing these symptoms is the fuel pump. does it also cut out a few mins after starting and then when restarted is perfectly fine? if so the seals might be going, and this can also give performance probs.

always looking for cheap options first mate
don't think i have an egr, and the smoking is the same as always - a bit of white on starting, none after that. however, the 'water in the fuel filter' light has been on for a while, so i'll get a new one ordered.
no cutting out at all, ever, so i guess it isn't that
    thanks for the reply mate

yup sorry, forgot that the paj has an egr and the shogun doesnt in most cases, although typically mitsi, you can never be sure until you look

perhaps part strip the turbo to see if there is any oil in it where there shouldnt be oil?? this is generally a bad sign.

You should just be able to undo a drain screw at the bottom of the filter and let the water drain out. Used to have to do it a couple of times a year on my old Paj

that is true, but probably best changing it for the few quid it costs, bearing in mind the circs.

    new filter ordered
chas - might have to find a more mechanical friend to look at the turbo - partial strip-down is restricted to clothes for me
