Pineapple
. My biggest worry when camping. You mean Pine needle?
Just brushing past a bramble, rose or any other thorn will quite possibly see you sleeping on cold, hard ground. Unless the mat is properly protected, ie; inside your pack, then I wouldn't bother with them. Strapping to the outside is a recipe for a bad night.
The recommendation for Alpkit isn't good IMO. They have a poor quality foam inside them and they don't self inflate. At least a Multimat or Thermarest offers a bit of padding if punctured.
Personally I've had it with self inflating mats.Frank Mclaury: You're next on my list, Holliday. You better get used to seeing my face, 'cause it's the last thing you're gonna see.
Doc Holliday: McLaury, seeing your face would be a pleasant change. I understand most of your enemies got it in the back.

Re: Please recommend me some gear!
No, but the golite Jam has been a hugely popular pack, less than 900g, almost a cult following and it's in your budget. But no, sorry no personal experience of it.
No experience of either, but I know you'd be happy with this...Finally something they sell here

Re: Please recommend me some gear!
I have the coleman phad x2, not used it yet though. Only ever read good reviews of it though, but it's slightly over your weight limit at 3.5kg, but it's pretty cheap, and plenty of room for gear. I was going to get the vango banshee 200 instead of this (which i'm glad I didn't) because although it's 1kg lighter, it's a lot smaller too (and I like my room).

Re: Please recommend me some gear!
That the one you have? Packs like Handie Andies, turns into a mattress?
How about one of these Frederiek?

The one you quoted looks absolutely fine, but this is about a third of the weight at 310g.
What was that concertina closed sell mat someone posted before?Last edited by Nice65; 31-05-12 at 07:54 PM.

Re: Please recommend me some gear!
Frederiek, just some maths to make you think....
GoLite Jam, 50L - 850g - 65 Euro
GoLite Shangri-La 3 - 1970g - 162 Euro
Peak Elite 2/3 - 250g - 62 Euro.
Total for (massive) tent, (super-comfy) sleeping pad and (superb) rucksack = 3.1kg, 289 Euro.δxδp≥h/4π

Re: Please recommend me some gear!
Used a thermarest for years. No puncture problems. Often on the outside bottom of the pack just in a dry bag which will prevent any snags. For the level of comfort they provide I'd never be without an inflating matt. If I was really worried I'd add the 20g for a puncture kit.
