Re: Chinese fakes, a step too far?
Thing is, well its obvious innit, they are not really proper copies. Even with the falkie logo on it , they are selling for less than 20 bucks so its clearly not an original, you would have to be REALLY stupid to believe that they were originals and if they were they would be stolen.
If they were selling for SRP minus 20% or so and only just undercutting the retailers then they would sucker a lot more people and clearly **** more people off than selling what are clearly fakes for practically nothing (and yes, i include the fake sebbie at 60 bucks in this.)

The 'copies' may well be worthless, the U.S.$'s are very real, and are rapidly making China a very real 'power' in most of the world! Don't they have an equation about a Million mile march starting with with a single step ( or is it 'Beanz meanz Heinz')!something snappy like that!

I agree. You'll notice that you cant type ******** without invoking the censor filter now. That is retro applied to all 2 million posts on this site (it breaks links too). I don't care if the Chinese don't have a word for fraud, but we do and I wont give them the oxygen of publicity. I'll do the same for any other company that is shown to sell fakes.

Re: Chinese fakes, a step too far?
I am enjoying a pair of Parker 51s of my late Stepfather that I refurbished. They are very good for writing regularly, better than many other modern fountain pens. As far as buying knives I suck up the cost and buy from a reputable source. I have taken a picture from the Benchmade site to a shop selling fakes in a style Benchmade didn't make. He still didn't believe me.

Re: Chinese fakes, a step too far?
Cheap copies are wrong for quite a few reasons in my book.
1. They steal the hard work of others with no acknowledgement or royalties.
2. They often are low quality and even dangerous products.
3. They can be easily mistaken for the real thing by those new to the knife world and the bitter disappointment of a poor quality product then is applied to the brand the copy was sold as. So now you have someone who thought they were buying a good brand or a knife/brand they had heard about believing the company makes poor quality products. Such people are often known to share that opinion with quite a few people. Knife people who have been around can spot a fake a mile away. I got offered a fake Global knife the other day. So easy to spot as a fake. Owner genuinely did not know it was fake.

Re: Chinese fakes, a step too far?
Bottom line. Anything that carries a fake brand name on it will be binned on this forum.
Any design copied 'may' be appreciated by the original designer. If the original designer has been mentioned and discussed first.
Any design copied from an un-copyrighted member (or well known for their style) who is trying to build up business is frowned upon.

Re: Chinese fakes, a step too far?
Well,
I'm now seeing copies of the bear grylls Bagley knife made with ats-34 steel from Japan.. And even Germans are remarking on the good quality of build materials. It also seems they re-designed the handle slightly.
