Recommend me a sub-£100 bench drill press!
I'm buying a bench drill at the end of the month but have limited funds (£100 max) and I would like the best I can afford. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Machine mart offer decent kit for your budget, look for one with a MT2 tapered chuck.

You can get drill press runners, or stands (not sure what you might call them).
You clamp in your own drill to make a drill press. I'm pretty sure they wont be anywhere near as good quality and probably no good for heavy use, but might get you out of a bind if you only need a few holes done. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
Then it's a sport.

Re: Recommend me a sub-£100 bench drill press!
I bought a cheap Titan from Screwfix around when I first joined. Still going strong and still does everything I ask of it.
I'd spend extra money if it could take mortising chisels as well.
I think there may still be a few around in some Lidl stores, they had some within the few weeks.
Lidl's tools always seem rugged and well built, just not the most stylish.
Edit: I don't think you can go really wrong with drill presses unless you get one of those "adapters" for your hand drill.

Re: Recommend me a sub-£100 bench drill press!
Thanks for the replies folks. Much appreciated!
It's going to see a fair bit of use and i'm planning to use a small drum-sander attachment on it as well so i'm looking for a dedicated press.
Anyone have any experience with this one?

Much the same as the clarke stuff machine mart sell too. Re the drum sander, that's the reason I mentioned the Mt2 chuck, it will take the side load better. I ended up buying a small mill/drill in the end after looking for a drill press as the drum sanding and light milling tasks are needed all the time.

Re: Recommend me a sub-£100 bench drill press!
I still struggle on with an old drill mounted in a press, it's not that accurate and getting pretty worn out, I'd be interested to know how you get on with that if you do "click, add to basket".
Cheers
EI only have limited access on line, so if you pm me you may not get an instant reply, I will however respond as soon as I am able. Thank you.

I've been scouring e-bay and the net and this one is looking good and half price as well. Anyone have any experience of it? There is a Cromwells not too far away so I could pick it up myself.

Look around ebay for second hand drills, you can get a lot more bang for your buck. Also check out freecycle, I got a 1.5 horse power drill through it a few years ago, any local machine shops? Might be able to score something nice from one.

As Iron Hoarder says look for an old goody. You will find them sturdy, accurate and a joy to operate. I got a 1999 Meddings for £85.
