It was not my intent to create just another attractive movie prop, but rather to make one basic tool to do a variety of jobs. So i had to imagine what i would need if i were in an isolated survival situation and could have only one tool to get by with, and i reasoned that it should be a multi purpose knife that would:

Have a long cutting edge for cutting shelter materials, firewood and cutting up what i might have to eat.
Have a compass in order to hold a true bearing for escape.
Have a hollow handle to hold necessities and into which a pole could be fitted to make a spear or gig, as well as being waterproof when capped.
Have screwdrivers for working on any gear i had.
Have some nylon line for fishing or snares.
Have a flat butt for pounding.
Have a real saw on the back for cutting small poles for fishing and shelter and making a spear as well as cutting out of the canopy or through the side of a downed aircraft.
And last but not least, it must be a dependable offensive or defensive weapon, as the situation might dictate.
The First Blood combat/survival knife incorporates all these features to their fullest.

I've no idea if it works but it's what I've always been led to believe. The fuselage of a helicopter or fighter aircraft is not particularly thick and my understanding was that the teeth were designed to tear through this material.

I may well be wrong, but the saw teeth don't appear to be designed for wood!

In practise I do wonder how those teeth would work on aluminium, surely they are not meant to file rather than saw it away?

That's not fair, the only edges on my Landy are where the rust has broken off.

Mind you, it'd probably saw through wood quicker than that thing.

No idea mate, I've never had to cut myself out of an aircraft!

The planes I have had experience of are either big enough that you'd need a blow torch at least, or small enough that I could punch straight through the skin.

well was out burning some rubbish in the back garden today ,i used the andy wood / lile first blood knife for fun chopping some branches and stuff, photographs really nice outside ,the knife
still sharp even after a good old workout heres some knife porn for you first blood knife lovers....

i decided i would use one of them just for fun nothing heavy but if im having a bbq or whatever mess around with it , no point having a knife like this and never to use it i say ,i got the other one hanging up on display (non movie version)
so have you got 2 of them now rob?

What a great read this thread is . Apart from seeing the film I know nothing about the Rambo knife. The knife that is featured upfront in the thread looks rather superb and
is superbly finished. Yes it is based on a prop in a film...but what a prop !Is it accurate.....sounds like it from others comments. Designed to be visually agressive it is a "Film Star" in its own right...as to its useability I really don't care.
