Given a choice, I'd take the cruiser.

The tent is probably worth more.

The cruiser looks like a bundle of laughs. If I owned the tent I'd have several fracture dislocations within a week.

    Why?

I think, its one of those roof tent, where you basically pull a rope and the thing unfolds.

    Shouldnt do you any harm.

Haha yeah, that might be why

Well, the concept is hugely popular, so others might not be afraid of that.

Peronally, I find the concept of a roof tent on a Landcruiser brilliant.

I understand the concept originated in Africa.....

The only drawback to rooftents is when nature calls in the night! People talk about the difficulty in moving 'camp' as you have to pack up your tent... With my hardshell one it takes less than 3 mins to close the tent. Bedding all stays in place. It is truly (along with a 12v compressor fridge) the best overlanding invention since 4x4! We have used ours in minus 6 degrees, in torrential rain and in baking heat of the rift valley in October. A little fan and a light have been added and bearing in mind it is the closest thing to a bedroom that we actually own it is well worth every penny.

The FJ is nice, although the colour and the headlights are not to my tastes, most have probably seen this, but if I ever won the lottery these guys would be getting a mail IMMEDIATELY:

I live in Jordan. I like taking my car into the desert. I don't like sleeping on the ground...nasty!

Buying a MY Way family roof tent (2m) and one of these as I can't afford a South African or Aussie version....

    http://www.mywayrooftents.co.uk/mywa...ER-TRAILER-14/

Hannibal and ARB do some good stuff as well.

Josco, the local Petrol exploration company and working with Shell and BP have bought new but old style (still available special order) Landcruisers and equipped them with all the kit including ARB roof tents.

They are in the desert for up to six weeks at a time and in all that time you WILL come up against the nasties, especially the Camel Spider. Ooooh I HATE them.

Sleeping 2m up in the air, yeah....

Buy a she wee for the ladies and pee out the tent for a man.

Most of the desert we have (Apart from around Wadi Rum of course) is jebel, and very rocky and tough,

I admire the Bedou, they are hardy folk, I as a soft westerner am not. let me sleep high!

Sorry, duplicate post, something to do with fingers and lack of control.

    Apologies.
