    Have I cooked my tip?

I was grinding bevels on an O1 blank yesterday (it's in its raw state, no heat treatment yet) and the tip turned black. Does this mean that it's kaput? Or can I continue and rely on heat treat to sort out any issues?

As always, any advice at all is very much appreciated.

    Josh

too hot would be anything over 180c imho, hotter than this and you might effect the temper of the the blade. This probably isnt entirely accurate but tempering O1 at 200c gives about 58-60rc, but tbh it all depends what its been tempered to.

Are you not going to heat it to about 1000 degrees in heat treat?

....so a bit of black now will do it no harm.
